Make it Soft by soil man

August 27th, 2010 5:05 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make something soft.

If you have ever rubbed warm ash between your fingers then you will know what I am talking about. If you haven't then i suggest you do. Haha! this probably sounds strange, I'm an artist so i spend a lot of time around charcoal, which is similar to ash. I wanted to take an object and turn it to that soft grayish material. I found a book that I knew I was never going to read, I had no desire to read it. I'm sure it was an interesting book but I have other books I would rather read. At one time it sat on my book shelf collecting dust, now it blows around in the wind...

I thought this was an appropriate book for turning to ash. Since the universe was born out of chaos and fire.

The liquid around the book is charcoal starter, at one point I poured it on the fire. I didn't get a chance to take a pic before the fire died down.

I am amused. And it's economic stimulus season.

normally i'm repulsed by the act of burning books - but in this instance, you so very well reminded me of the wonder which is burnt paper.

and, in a way, you are simply facilitating that object's return to the Infinite Universe.
