We waited on a street corner in the Castro district for something fantastic to happen.

This was the third and final SF0 mission we were committed to completing that evening. We had already annotated objects with our love and seen beyond sight. Now we hoped to witness something very good.

We were a little skeptical that we would actually witness something fantastic. We thought we might have to stretch the definition of "fantastic" and open our minds to the "everyday fantastic" around us.

But instead, we actually saw something utterly fantastic, and literally only about 60 seconds after we had arrived at the corner where we intended to wait.

It was so fast and so surprising that I only captured one picture, at the very end of it, and you won't be able to make out what had happened because it was already over by the time the camera lens shuttered.

This is what we saw:

A car pulled up to a stop light. It was red.

Someone in the car cranked up the stereo. It was playing Soulja Boy.

Everyone in the car (front and back seat) opened their doors and hopped out.

They proceeded to do a perfectly synchronized Soulja Boy dance -- hands waving, legs flying -- right there in the middle of the street as the car idled.

The light turned green. They hopped in the car and rode off.

We screamed and cheered and waved our hands in the air in solidarity.

We were amazed and happy and thrilled to see such a display.

Still, it had happened so fast that we thought maybe that wasn't the fantastic thing. Maybe that was a warm-up. We debated whether we should wait for something more fantastic.

As we were considering the potential need to stay, I looked through the window of the bar on the corner. A big TV screen caught my eye. It was playing something fantastic -- literally -- the great 1980s fantasy Jim Henson film, The Dark Crystal. It happened to be playing with subtitles. And just as I looked, the words came up: "It is time -- It is time to return to the castle."

Well, we couldn't argue with that. My collaborators and I agreed that we had indeed witnessed something wonderfully fantastic, and having completed our third of three missions for the evening, we should return to our "castle" -- Kid Beyond's house.
