Discovering What Doesn't Change by Pater Nephael
July 12th, 2010 10:57 AM
......what doesn't change? - that's a heavy question and i had a hard time finding the answer- but luck is with the dumb.
Well, but instead of just telling you the answer, i'll write down the history of my thoughts and actions that lead to the discovery:
( i just have some time to waste and i think it's funnier this way^^)
So, the first thing that crossed my mind was- the sea. Why?
- Water does stay the same even if the shape changes
- It has the feeling of "ancient", like beginning of all life and stuff
- cool metaphor for unconscious mind
- If Cthulhu "lies eternal" the place where he lies has to be eternal too
But then i thought- duh- why not say Cthulhu in the first place? But wait there are more elder gods...dammit which one to take... Azathoth the everchanging Chaos slipped my mind, but well he's everchanging and not "not changing" ....
[If i just knew that time how close i was to the answer!]
This is were my original chain of thoughts stopped cause i reallized i got myself too deep into Lovecraft...
So I started again:
Human Stupidity? That's what Einstein said- but- [oh no!] he said it's eternal and not "not changing"...
The universe itself? Nah- we still got the second thermodynamical law driving everything to chaos......
Mathematics? Mmh... If the universe is changing, so are the laws of nature, which means Mathematics and Physics change, too....
...
so i decided to give it up on this task for today and prepare myself for Keep Marching On.
But- eureka!- by looking through my old things i found an old art/philosophy postcard [probably a gift from my mother- but i can't remember well^^] showing Buddha and next to him in big letters the answer i was so desperately looking for:
"Everything changes- except for change."

It was pure dumb luck just as i wrote^^ -if i hadn't found the postcard i would've struggled for days or weeks xD On the other hand: This way it was a real discovery and not just philosophy^^
and you came to a quite true conclusion
