Fortune Not Cookie by niallsb: Forevolution

January 13th, 2008 12:10 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Install fortunes of your devising in permanent or non-permanent media in openable structures, such that passersby will come across them.

This next task confirms what you might have guessed from the last task:
-I am nocturnal
-I am impulsive
-I like sticking paper to things

I was sitting at the computer, contemplating how much time I had left to complete this task, and what kind of things in Stanley open. Hmmmm...

I originally thought of placing some fortunes inside the payphone's change hole (the hole the change is given out of) but I though that it would be too difficult to fit so many in and unlikely that they would all stay there for a long period of time.

Then it hit me, like a sugar rush hits a 3-year old. I was missing the broader picture. Instead of putting them inside of the payphone, I could just put them in the phonebox. It was an old wooden and glass box with nice thick frames, perfect for hiding small pieces of paper stuck to the door.

Could I do it right then, at 1:30am in the morning? Well, I had tape, I had paper, I had scissors, I had a source of really bad fortunes and I had a dressing gown to task in:

After I printed off my fortunes and cut them up using that cool pair of scissors, I set out with regular scissors, clear sticky tape and my fortunes all carried in my industrial-sized pockets of my dressing gown.

The phonebox was lit up a night so I got to work. I was messy work as I rolled out alot of tape and stuck groups of fortunes, seven at a time, on long strips of tape. I only stuck the fortunes down on one side so that Non-players could pull them off. I also stuck a "take me" sign above the fortunes to let people know that they could take them off. Stuck about 30 fortunes to the door of the phone booth.

I left knowing that it was a job well done, and that if anybody saw a strange person in the phone booth wearing a dressing-gown and holding strips of paper, they'd think it best if they were to ignore it. I got home at 2:00.

The next day I decided to check up on my fortunes. I took a few non-playing friends with me to see what I'd done (actually, it's my brothers birthday today and we'd all just gone for sweets at the Chocolate Shop)(Happy Birthday Evan!).

I turns out that just 13 hours after I'd stuck my fortunes to the inside of the phone box, 7 fortunes had been removed. My task was a success!

P.S. A big thankyou to my other brother Theo for lending me his camera. Cheers!
