Everything That Exists Is On The Internet by rongo rongo

September 6th, 2007 7:36 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Find something that exists that is not on the internet. Try to maintain it in that state.

I thought about this a long time when the task came out, and was dismayed to realized that I did not know of anything that is not on the internet! Then, recently, I was trying to look something up on the internet and couldn't find it. Now, I realized that you cannot theoretically prove the non-existence of something, and certainly just because I can't find something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. But I wanted to offer this up, because either I have indeed discovered something that is not on the internet, or one of you will find it and prove me wrong. But then at least I'd have what I was looking for.

I believe that the knowledge for how to weave paper deer out of four thin strips of papers exists (because approximately 25 years ago, someone showed me how to do this, and that person is still alive), but is not on the internet. Additionally, I don't think that an example of this sort of paper deer is even on the internet. The paper deer weaving I am thinking of is a flat item, and the strips are woven together to make the body, with the ends sticking out to form the tail, legs. There is also a woven head and neck, and some ends stick out to form antlers. I found instructions on the internet for weaving a deer antler basket, and making a woven/twined deer figurine, but neither is the paper deer that I remember. The person that showed me how to do this favored using Kit-Kat wrappers or Thin Mint wrappers, but I do not think that was an integral part of the technique.

I do realize that by publicizing my inability to find this on the internet, I might seem to be encouraging someone to post the instructions for making these deer, thus violating the instructions for this task. So, I will end with an explicit request---if you know how to make one of these deer and wish to share, instead of posting instructions, please just post a picture of the finished product and let viewers figure out the process for themselves. Thanks!

Other types of paper can be used, but foiled paper wrappers work well.

wrapped or twined deer

wrapped or twined deer

This is not the deer I am looking for, as it is missing antlers and is also more wrapped than woven.

woven deer basket

woven deer basket

This is also not the sort of woven deer I am looking for.

And like that, the google is spreading the knowledge to the people!

That's...really weird.
