The Things We Bury For Our Friends by patty larceny, Bjørn Teuleuse, Evyan

April 28th, 2008 12:28 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Bury something. Contact another player that you don't know in real life and give them instructions on where to dig it up. Your instructions can be either straight-forward or cryptic.

When you contact them you should also invite them as a collaborator on the task.

I began this task by picking a couple of players who have not yet completed other tasks aside from the player photograph. I got a couple of random things at a salvage yard and decided to put them in an "Invasion of the Monster Women" lunch pale. I went up to buena vista park and buried my findings; old photographs, a 70s recipe card for a disgusting meal, 9 small viles, some cheesy tarot cards and a pair of dental molds. I wrote on a piece of paper a couple of clues:

- (Go to) maps.google.com
- (Search) 37.759736, -122.447619
- (Dig) between a bush and a tree
- (Find) Invasion of the Monster Women
- Shrine

Document your journey with photographs.

I mentioned that it was a race to add a sense of urgency. I also believed that once one person found it, they would dig it up and take it. But the one person that has contacted me (Patty Larceny) left something there instead. I will now try and message all players who have yet to participate in a task to see if they can add to this weird shrine.

I began to assign new meanings to the objects simply because you put them together. I'm sure it was arbitrary, but reinterpretation through juxtaposition has long been a fascination of mine. I think we should have some tasks based on this sort of curation...
