Dérive by shady grey

INSTRUCTIONS: Among the various situationist methods is the dérive [literally: 'drifting'], a technique of transient passage through varied ambiances. In a dérive one or more persons during a certain period drop their usual motives for movement and action, their relations, their work and leisure activities, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there.

One can dérive alone, but all indications are that the most fruitful numerical arrangement consists of several small groups of two or three people who have reached the same awakening of consciousness, since the cross-checking of these different groups' impressions makes it possible to arrive at objective conclusions.

The full text...

Undertake a dérive, and report your objective conclusions to your fellow players.

After a night of drinking (for free, whaaaat!!), I stumbled across Blackfriars Bridge along with someone else who was at the same meet-up as I, who seemed to be far more disoriented than I as well ('Are we north or south of the river?'). After helping him get to the nearest tube station, I set out for a little dérive action.

I take pictures a lot. I wouldn't say I'm a photographer, but perhaps it could be fitting to call myself a very amateur one. I took pictures along my walk, which amounted to about an hour's rambling until I found myself all-too familiar territory, in which case I considered the dérive over.

Please note the captions I've added to the photographs.

I stuck with the semi-main roads. Had I been sobre, or had I looked at a map, I probably would have tried using the smaller roads to get to where I wound up at.

Ludgate Circus, the start of my solitary wandering.

The plaza was rather random. I was hoping I could keep going down it, but it dead-ended. Disappointing, but interesting all the same.

The alleyway leading away from the secret plaza.

I made my way towards my favourite London landmark, St Paul's.

Ah, the city at night. I love how lonely it is in some parts.

Cherubs are creepy.

I was playing around with my camera, and managed to set it to Evil, apparently. St Paul's looks haunted.

Much of the area around St Paul's was burned to the ground during the blitz in the second World War.

An icon of London. They're really normally filled with a bunch of numbers and flyers for call girls, featuring ridiculously amplified physiques.

As I walked around the roundabout, I walked upon the slanted bit. After a while, it became rather easy.

I managed to catch this shot when all the blinky lights where off. It makes it look more deserted.

This reminds me a bit of the Jacques Tati film, Playtime.

It was a bicycle. I took a photo of it.

A glittery two-storey shrine to consumption!

I had thought of submitting this for the 'Art under the influence' task, but I realised I had no photos of me drinking the three pints I had at the meet.

Thus, I was rather lacking in evidence on that end.

Lovely captions. I especially like the photo you got with the blinking lights all off.

Thank you. I mean to upload them onto my Flickr account in their proper sizes at some point. I took loads more. When I get drunk I get really clicky with the camera.

More cameras should have this setting.

I believe that happens when you set it on live mode, but backwards.
