Ethereal Cartography by Rachel Clark, THE WAFFLER
January 2nd, 2009 4:33 PM / Location: 61.506555,-149.6742We began by assembling paper into a question - mark shape. Then we used mixed media to create a map of our magical islands - including colored pencils, glitter (LOTS of glitter), paint, sharpies, paint pens, gel pens, etc.
The creatures that live upon the islands include Faeries, Gnomes, and Giants, and Cubans. In the north section of the island is the Faery territory - there you will find landmarks such as Candy Castle and Hard Candy Cafe. On the east (and largest) portion of the mainland is the land of the Gnomes. Do not let these innocent-looking creatures fool you - they are by far the most dangerous creatures on the islands. They are known for being cannibalistic and for having a strong craving for human fingers. In their territory, you will find several locations best avoided - the Evil Water Vortex of Doom (located in a dark cove) sucks in anything and everything within a 10 mile radius. Another place best avoided is the Gnome Fortress. Rumored to contain vast treasures, this fortress is truly formidable to those who wish to enter it. Another hard-to-get-to hotspot is the Magic Meadow. Those who reach the meadow and eat of its magic mushrooms will reach great wisdom and physical beauty. Good luck trying to reach these mushrooms, for they are guarded by Glitter Monsters.
The third and smallest portion of the island, located on the southern tip of the mainland, is inhabited by Giants. These giants range in size from 20 ft. to 80 ft. tall. Do not fear these creatures, for they are mentally inept and are, quite frankly, too stupid to tell a human from a toadstool.
Off the southern portion of the mainland are a group of smaller islands, which are inhabited by Cuban refugees who couldn't swim far enough to reach Florida (this is not a racist statement - my mother is a Cuban refugee). It is quite difficult to reach these islands, because the surrounding waters are full of Giant Man-Eating Sea Monsters.
This project took us 4 hours to complete (we began at midnight and finished at 4:15 in the morning).

Or both?
I find the fourth picture very aesthetically pleasing; I'd never arrange the pages with such a cavalier abandonment of grid geometry, but clearly it worked. Good and creative, however, I have a word of caution.
"Glitter is the Herpes of craft supplies."
...and it was in reference to the Hard Rock Cafe
Thanks for the comment. XD
I like you, AKØ. You remind me of GYØ, back in the olden days. I think you have the groundwork set now; I hope that you will be something special; something that will burst this site back into life.
Now, however, you've got to think Bigger, Better and More Bizarre ;)
Long live AKØ!
Ben
I appreciate your votes and the comment you left me. Currently the temperature is holding some tasks from us...but when it starts warming up it definitely will be Bigger, Better, and More Bizzarre..
Thanks again,
