Trespassing by Llama Chameleon

May 7th, 2009 2:55 PM / Location: 41.373588,-88.44165

INSTRUCTIONS: Go somewhere you are not allowed to go.

One of my friends found this abandoned paper mill. From the outside, the building looks like it's in pretty good shape.

We had to climb under a fence to get inside. I scratched the hell out of my back.

The door was propped open with a small ladder leading to it.

The first room was freakin' huge!

It looks like kids hang out in here. There was a bunch of junk, some skate board ramps, and some small tables.

There were doors to our left and right. We went right first. It was another huge, mostly empty room. The windows in this room were green, so everything in the room was tinted green. It was pretty eerie.

We think this is the remains of an office. The ceiling had collapsed in.

I climbed a rickety stair case up to the roof. It swayed with every step I took, but was seemed sturdy enough to hold my weight. I couldn't say the same about the roof. I climbed back down, and it was nice to get my feet on solid ground again.

This sign was hanging by the stair case. I love creepy old signs!

Then we headed left. It appeared to have been offices. My mold allergy started acting up pretty badly. Parts of the place were covered in mold.

We found what we assume was the break room. There was still a framed poster on the other side of the room. It looks like it's from the 70s.

We started down a dark hallway, but there were noises on the other end. The mill is pretty far out in the country, so we were worried that it might be coyotes or something else that could eat us. We decided that not being devoured was the better part of valor, and went back to explore other parts of the building.

We found the mens' room. The ladies' room was buried under a collapsed portion of the roof, so we couldn't get in.

We found this door near the loading dock. It looked like something straight from a horror movie, and led to a small dark room.

We decided to call it a day, and headed back out. Climbing up under the fence was more difficult than climbing down, but we all managed.

It wasn't the best abandoned building I've explored, but it was pretty awesome. (I think the best was an abandoned hotel I stumbled across in southern Illinois.) It has a ton of open space that is begging to be used. I want to go back and do something awesome with some of it. I'm leaning toward painting a meandering labyrinth on the floor. Or, at the very least, I want to return at night with oil lamps and run a Call of Cthulhu game.

There was a bunch of junk inside. In the background of this picture, you can see a skateboard ramp.

The second room has green windows, which causes really creepy lighting.

That is awesome. I especially liked the picture showing how you squeezed in, and the green room...

Agreed. The action shot is what won me over.
