I freely admit that I've never been much of a writer, or a book-binder for that matter - but conveniently not all books have to have words. I speak of course of the photobook.

Picking the Pics

Picking the Pics

A Photobook, hrmm, but of what? I dug into my photo library and picked out 24 of my pictures taken over the last year or so, and sequenced them as a string of dyptychs.

SF0 Catalog

SF0 Catalog

... then I thought, you know, I bet the other folks who have already finished this task would like a little plug. So I cranked up photoshop and created a catalog page pimping SF0 and the other extremely limited edition books created so far.

Materials

Materials

I uploaded the photos I'd chosen as well as the SF0 plug page to the Walgreens photo lab down the street for printing. I picked up the prints and got to work. Materials: Black 4x6 landscape photo album Scissors (not actually used here) Double Sided Tape and of course the freshly printed photos.

Completed Product

Completed Product

Assembly was relatively quick, but I had to cleverly use the double sided tape to slide the photos into the album - many of the pockets were really tight. They felt good. Here we have the completed album

At the Library

At the Library

I strolled down to the closest library...

Noted the rather extensive security system designed to keep my new book safe.

Peering

Peering

Hrmmm, where to put it...

This will do

This will do

Ahh, this will do - only 3 books separate my little book and "I married a communist". As it should be.

Huzzah

Huzzah

And there we have it! The remainder of the photos are the photos in the book in sequence. They are meant to be interpreted as a sequence of dyptychs (except for the last photo of course). eeek, I'm late!

I'm really impressed with both the quality of photographs and the presentation. Did you really take all of those? What kind of photography god are you?

Ahh Waldo, flattery is the sincerest form of bribery? (+comment vote for you)

I took all of the pictures that I used for the book over the last year or so, with the exception of the Sutro Tower image that I used as the background for the catalog page. I found it on flickr's creative commons search - here's the original taken by Tolka Rover, before I cleaned it up / photoshopped in the logo/books/text.

Very nice. I particularly like the picture of the man with an eye on his hand.

Thanks, that one is a self portrait.

I was born with a spare eye on the back of my hand. It often comes in handy for checking under the bed for spare change or... monsters!
