Work is So Strange by Judith A. Marie

Let me preface by saying that my manager has Tourette's, which doesn't not mean he spouts profanities at random. It's simply an uncontrolled tick, which in his case, causes him to compulsively stretch out his jaw and face. That being said, I work in a restaurant in Berkeley and we get a wide variety of people coming through with all sorts of interesting styles, habits, and issues.
One day, I'm working and my manager comes up to me and says, "Do you hear it?"
"Hear what?"
"That boop sound."
"What?" and somewhere off in the distance comes this noise: Boop!
"What was that?"
"It's the boop guy!"
At this point, I'm obviously intrigued. The Boop Guy? So, I go and tend to my tables as quick as possible, all the while there's this occasional "Boop!" sounding somewhere out of my section. I go back to my manager *face stretch* and ask him to elaborate on this... Boop guy.
Boop!
"He's this guy who's sitting in one of our front booths. He has Tourette's and he says Boop!" he explains and starts cracking up.
"Really? Awesome!"
"He comes in about once a year with a group of people *face stretch* and he just sits there and Boops," and he starts laughing again. "Do you have J—'s number? Tell him the Boop Guy is here!"
It was in that moment, I took a step back and realized I was talking to a guy with Tourette's laughing about another guy with Tourette's. It was a weird moment.
Boop!
