When I go and vote, I get all patriotic and weird. I vote every year, not just "big" years. There's always something that people want my opinion on (as a voter) and I like letting them know. On election day, when I see someone with an "I VOTED" sticker, I stop and say "Thank you." This startles them, but not in a troubling way.
This year was a "big" election (president and state senator here), and it was going to have a big turnout. I wanted people to feel good about voting, and about voting for who they thought would be the best for the job. Voting is a big deal. The President affects the rest of the world, for better or worse. There are many ways to interpret "us," so I thought it was a good word to use.
