Find Roof Access by [smedly]

August 11th, 2008 11:47 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Find roof access.

I ended up accessing two roofs. I started by wandering around the city looking for, well, roof access. After half an hour, I wandered into the lobby of a hotel by the harbor and tried to take the elevator the the restaurant on the 15th floor.

The elevator wouldn't go to 15, so I got off at 14 and tried the staircase. Actual process of accessing the roof documented below.

On my way home, I figured I might as well look for another, easy roof to access. I found this tourist/shopping/pavilion at Harbor Place that seemed easy enough to climb. I even got some help from the PO-lice.

I took the elevator to the 14th floor, then explored the stairs hoping to find roof access.

the sign says "PLEASE do not open door". it was propped open.

the door led to the elevator room. after a little more exploring i found a convenient red staircase

and it looks like someone conveniently left this door open too

it's always helpful when doors are left wide open

not only left open, but tied open with a rubber machine belt of some kind

the door led out onto the roof, where the ac condensers were housed. everything was hidden from the street by a 6 ft wall.

luckily there was a ladder leading up to the highest level of the roof

I started to make my way back home, passing through Inner Harbor. There's a boat, and in the background is the Hyatt, whose roof i accessed.

IMG_8102.JPG

On the way home, i figured i might as well get onto some other really easy roof. remember the low green roofed building i mentioned earlier? this is it. it looked easy enough to climb.

but i suddenly got really nervous when a police officer came and started hanging around that pretzel cart.

IMG_8116.JPG

IMG_8116.JPG

he was totally cramping my style

IMG_8114.JPG

IMG_8114.JPG

anyway...since i knew security was hanging around i had to be a little more sneaky and didn't really have time to hang out for long on the roof. i climbed quickly up a drainpipe that ran down by the windows to a sushi restaurant.

another look at the boat, and across the harbor to federal hill. i had spent about a minute up on the roof, so i figured it was time to get down, in a hurry. i jumped back down the the 2nd floor balcony, and some waiters gave me strange looks.

IMG_8118.JPG

IMG_8118.JPG

when i got back down to street level the police officer was still there.

IMG_8117.JPG

so i approached him "excuse me sir, would you mind taking my picture? i'd like to get this building in the background. make sure that you get the ROOF in the shot." i gave him a thumbs up
