Freeway Excursion by [smedly]

June 29th, 2008 1:36 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Traverse a freeway without an automobile.

I completed this task at 4 a.m. after a concert I went to. I had read the task earlier that day, but wasn't actually planning to complete it that night. After the concert, I had 'enjoyed' myself so much that I found I had trouble walking home and actually got lost. I found myself on the wrong side of a lake, and I had to get across. Then I came across the bridge of Interstate I-10 and the words of this task resurfaced in my fuzzy brain. At first I attempted to scale the underside of the bridge, but only made it about 1/4 of the way across, because the pipe I was using ended. So I climbed up to the freeway side of the bridge. Luckily it was four in the morning and there was hardly any traffic. I was still kinda scared of oncoming traffic. I managed to stay safe along the edge of the bridge, and finally made it across and home.

Sadly, I didn't have a camera with me that night, but i went back today and did some re-enactment. I didn't dare cross the bridge again though, cause at 1 in the afternoon on I-10 the traffic was deadly.

This task is dangerous... seriously

I revisited the scene of the task in broad daylight to safely document a re-enactment.

i attempted to scale the underside of the bridge to get across. that pipe in the upper right was the only think keeping me from leaning out and falling into the water.

holding on tight to the pipe

but, as i sadly discovered, the pipe didn't go all the way across the bridge. it only went about 1/4 of the way, so i had to turn back and go up to the freeway.

at 4 in the morning there wasn't really any traffic and it was safe to cross...

but it was not safe at 1 in the afternoon, so i didn't attempt it. i feel accomplished enough that i did it at 4 in the morning, even if i have no photo-evidence
