Create A Contradiction by Flea

March 20th, 2008 3:33 PM / Location: 54.998173,-6.332631

INSTRUCTIONS: Create a contradiction in public. Pass out condoms at the Vatican, throw raw meat at vegan protesters (this is not a good idea btw), play war at an anti-war rally.

So, a while back, I found a sign, used to divert traffic when roads are being worked on. I realised today that I could use this...
Step 1

So, in order to create a contradiction, I took my traffic diversion sign to places where it isn't possible for cars to go! The first place I hit was at a T-junction in a fenced off path. The sign was just wide enough to completely block the centre path.

My first unfortunate victim was someone who came around from the right path quite quickly whilst I was taking photos. He came around the corner, bumped into the sign, and looked at me. I simply apologised, folded the sign up, moved it aside, and let him past. He seemed pretty cool about it, so I stood it back up, took my pictures and went on my way.

My next hit was the park. I decided that the slide would be the best place for a fake diversion.

I then went to hit the bridge which, like the path earlier, the sign was wide enough to cover almost entirely.

It was at this point when I met with a couple of acquaintances, who I get the bus to and from school with from time to time, who asked me what the heck I was doing carrying a sign around. I told them what was going on, and directed them to SF0. They seemed enthused. I asked them for a few photos with the sign, and they were happy to assist!

Some more people...

I then figured that I could top everything so far by taking my sign inside places. I found a local corner shop, the staff of which I was on fairly good terms with. I took some photos of outside...

...before going inside, having casual conversation with some of the customers and staff, walking out, walking back in with my sign, setting it in front of one of the aisles, taking a photo, and walking out again.

Then, I went to a supermarket, the staff of whom were... not so friendly. I figured I'd be better off if I got in and out as fast as I could. Took a photo of outside...

...then walked in, with my sign, right to the back of the shop, and set the sign up in front of one of the aisles. Down this aisle was a worker busy stacking shelves. As I set up the sign, she moved around the far end of the aisle and starting moving up the next aisle towards me.
I took my picture quickly...

And the lady told be (quite forcefully) to "leave, and take my nonsense with me". I was not pleased, as this was the shop where I buy my chalk!

So, after a fairly productive evening, I left my sign back where I found it, and left a calling card below it...
The END

Woohoo!

Afterword

I wanted to post this picture, but felt it didn't fit in with the theme of the other pictures as, rather than being where cars shouldn't be, I placed this one where cars had to be...

I like how the sign came with a handy sign display stand.
