Work is So Strange by Justina Voice

July 6th, 2011 11:06 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Describe in some detail the strangest thing that happened to you at work in the past week. If you don't work, describe the strangest thing that happened to you during a leisure activity.

I work for a company that pairs tutors with students nationwide. Part of my job requires reading over what tutors submit as "qualifications" and approving (or denying) them the ability to work with a student in that subject area. Most of the time, my work basically consists of proofreading the work before we publish it to our site. It's quite boring, really.

Well, one of the areas in which we offer tutoring is "religion"--normally we get people either with a degree in Bible Studies, or we get students who have taken comparative religions, world religions, and the like. We're likely to be less strict with this one, because it's a somewhat delicate area.

The other day, I was reading a religion request, and it was going very well. The person had mentioned several courses he/she had taken in college, their degree was in Bible Studies, and they had been a pastor. It was all going great until the end, when they had mentioned their extensive study in shamanism. Now, I'm not one to judge, but seriously?! How many people have you heard of requesting a tutor in shamanism? I didn't think much of it, and approved the request.

Today at work, I received a message from that tutor in particular. It was relative to another issue entirely, but I couldn't help but notice in the signature....
