Personal Ads 1 by prokop

September 21st, 2006 12:36 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Collect 5-10 personal ads from various newspapers, and study them. Record the newspapers, ad numbers, and texts here as proof.

My old roommate's (Ruthie) mother sent her the most amazing and heartbreaking post: a ripped out newspaper ad for jdate.com. No note, no "Love, Mom", just an ad and an envelope. In honor of Ruthie, I have scoured jdate.com for potential love matches who Ruthie and her mother would approve. This, of course, required me to become a JDate member (“thru the post”).

And here they are:

Who am I? Could I ever even hope to compress my life into a few short paragraphs? Or would my time be better spent rambling about what an impossible feat such an undertaking would be? The answers are no, me, and yes, but not necessarily in that order.I like running by Lake Michigan, wandering aimlessly in cities, sleeping, listening to music, talking about politics, playing bridge, watching movies, playing most games non-competitively, and I love math enough to want to make a career out of it.I've lived in D.C, Colorado, Dallas, Boston, Cambridge (England), and Chicago. As such, I've had most of my wanderlust fully sated, so travel for me, like most other things, is less about what I'm doing and more about the company.I suppose that I am a bit quiet at first, in part because I often prefer to listen and observe than to talk. However, in the right setting, I love to just stick my foot in my mouth. Someone (Twain? Lincoln?) once said that "It is better to be quiet and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt." This is probably relevant, somehow.I'm am a bit of an intellectual snob, but that just means that it is more entertaining when I lose at Scrabble and Trivia Pursuit. I'm told that I'm an adorably bumbling, insightful, curious, caring, person, but people say a lot when you know how to do their homework, so who knows what to believe. If the above doesn't impress you, I can also recite all the digits of pi in reverse order. I beg of you not to ask me to try.

My jDate Anthem...Whither thou look, or choose not to see, i am a flower, i am still me. Whither your gaze is cast my way, i will search on, towards my golden day. (Oh, I will find my datemy everlasting date, i will find my date, and it will be great. I will find my date, lets hope more soon than late. I know you can't rush fate but you can help it here on jDate.) Well, what should I say about myself, should i be frank, displayed on shelf? or should i be coy, to get my boy? or hide my pearl to get the girl? how is my picture, have i no better? surely i look like a sick irish setter. my eyes look all weird, but what should it matter, if if isn't for them, then i say next batter! (...chorus...) oh maybe someday, on that billboard i'll be, my friends will all see it and shout with glee. or maybe i'll simply find my match, angling no more, i'll make my catch. (Oh, I will find my date, my everlasting date, i will find my date and it will be great. I know you can't rush fate, but i will find my date, And when all is said and done, it will all be 'cause of jDate)....DIRECTIONS . Dress in Pajamas. call your friends. choose a theme or melody.

Hi. I'm a grad student at U of C. Born in Israel, grew up in Jersey, and now my family lives in Hawaii. I have cats, prefer dogs, love music, and hate chopsticks. I practice olympic-style taekwondo, talk to mom everyday, and wish I made time to travel more.

I'm a musician, no matter how much I try to fight it sometimes. I play the Dobro (an acoustic lap slide guitar), and it keeps me really busy (there's not a lot of dobro players in the city!) -- a bunch of bluegrass (long story), pop/singer/songwrite r stuff whenever I get the chance.I'll go see any show that I've got time for, and I'm into pretty much anything. I just saw Dwight Yoakam a few weeks ago (no, really), and I'm hoping to go check out PsyOpus when they come to the K of C hall in Arlington Heights, just to see if they can pull that stuff off live (although I'm sure no one's gonna go with me to that one)! Then, it's off to the Klezmatics show at the park west; I've never seen them before.I'm also on my bike a lot; definitely the fastest and most fun way to get around. Riding to and from work has turned my commute into some free leisure time...Beyond that, I am passionate about small things; I've lived in this city for three years, and I'm still just as amazed with it as I was the day that I arrived. There's nothing like biking to the loop and getting that first view of the skyline as you're headed downtown. At this point, I'm just looking for someone to share the city with--someone to go with me to a show that I would've gone to alone, or someone that'll ride their bike with me out to the bar every once in a while instead of jumping in a cab, or someone to go with to check out a new restaurant, or see what's going on in the park. Simple stuff like that.

Love matzoh (fried). Hate gefilte fish (disgusting). I'm really bad at remembering things, but good at writing them down. Love baseball, tennis, and other sports, watching and playing, but a night at the theater might be more fun. Hate silent elevator-rides. Suspicious of online-dating, but busy enough that I might as well give it a try. Dogs are good, as long as they're the nice kind. Cats are the devil, but I have met one or two I can tolerate...the ones that are like dogs. I enjoy a good sense of humor so we can laugh at my moments of (seldom, I swear) stupidity. Oh, and chocolate fudge brownie is good...mmm. I just moved back to Chi-town after being away for a few years and I would love to explore the city now that I'm back: restaurants, museums, parks...and occasionally go no further than the couch to catch up on some good movies, new and old. I suppose people in my life would refer to me as funny and caring. I prefer to think of myself as tall. It's possible that none of us are accurate, but they know me better, so I would defer to them.

Love the fact that you actually joined JDate for this. I wish there was a WASPartners site, or something, for...you know...the *rest* of us.
