Player Portrait by Dan |ØwO|
April 3rd, 2010 3:36 PMHowever, this predicament is getting me to task more which is another route to era domination. Ultimately this, making all my friends sign up for sf0, is going to work out. (Not to mention all the upcoming colaboractions that are going to go down.)
Still, I knew I had to get something posted today because low and behold my rival, Naming, hit level five already. "I'm chasing you down!"
*shakes fist in the air*

So anyway, I started this task a couple of weeks ago when Likes Music finished his but I kept getting ideas and wasn't ready to post mine. Today was the first day I had time to teach him how to post his own praxis, lest he would have had his up the other weekend. (He has an interesting ten things in ten trees you might see in the feed soon.)
I was delayed from completing this pretty easy, solo task because I kept looking over other player portraits and noticing that other people had already done my ideas, only better. Dirty talent raising the submit bar.
My first idea was to put all the people I know in meat space together on the same page. After some work, this is how that turned out:

Sass Afrass
Naming
Hellingly Hall
Like's Music
Bellow is the combo of them with their icons sort of a la relet (Who I think deserves a little more vote love, for those of you who haven't yet seen/voted on his.)

Then I thought, "What I can do -- is the biggest mash up yet." Using the built in image editor I did a giant collage of everyone who'd made at least level 3 this erra, as well as my personal friends, and the top five players in the player photo catagory. I felt that looked boring so I did a little Gimp work on it to make it more hyper/frantic.
I am no Gimp/Photoshop guru so this took me a fair amount of time, and I had to watch these videos. But it certainly turned this into a task that made me feel like I was learning real world skills. Skills that I'll be able to incorporate into future tasks.

Then I went and cut out a random sf0 swath (I hear the voters have a thing for sf0 references)

and pasted it here:

Then I noticed someone had done a full on sf0 player portrait world. So I took all of the player portraits that people had done, including those that got flagged and did this mash up:

Happy Easter! Here is a link to the full view photo manips.

I would have appreciated that comment sent to me as a private message. What joy does it bring you to tell the world you actively chose not to vote? Why push an agenda on how to write up praxis, on my page?
All are free to play the game as they like. If the love of the tasking isn't apparent from the praxis, well, what's a gay despot to do?
Perhaps, Electra, since you said, "Might have voted for this," you might endulge me in another postulation for the lack of your vote--hmmm? I think you know the real beef between us, and it isn't a perceived pandering demeanor.
She's posting it here for the benefit of all the impressionable new players who might read this proof and decide "ah, I see. This must be how you are supposed to play this game! Discussing voting gets people votes!"
Do you really want the future of SF0 growing up thinking this? Think about the n00bs, Dan! And as you think about them, try gimping them into images of cobra commander treating them appropriately as well.
There's ways to settle beefs in this game, friends.
Like this and this or what these guys did.
Praxis is a force that gives us meaning.
I might have flagged this if you didn't beg so much. It's charming, and enhances the rest of the proof. Task for the love of Score, even on low-level tasks.
I sat in the splits for an hour and 20 minutes in this task and you give me a two.
so i'm begging, please give me more. I worked hard and did something truly unique. I deserve it
let me look at this, pixie.
Edit upon review:
Oh wait! You're just talking to Markov.
thank you!
Dan: for messaging me with you input (sorry i'm boring)
Markov: for reconsidering
You're welcome. I hit you with five points for swings. Always feel free to come to me for points requests.
yo villain, your bottom link don't work
you know you always have my fives no matter what

fixed.
My favorite part of points talk is that people offer points for me to be less points motivated. Proving my general theory that points are a way of mind control. Let go of your points. Only then can you be free. 5s to all. Only then will you stop wanting. Want is suffering.
I ONLY vote 5s. I keep no points. I let the love flow outward towards the praxis. Spend what you have, for to keep is the equivalent of greed.
If your brother is in want and you have, give to him. He with the least points only proves his love of the game.
Well, except that's just a tiny bit intellectually dishonest—in the first place I would caution that sounds like an exception that proves the rule. To wit: he or she with the most points certainly doesn't hate the game. Do they? Here they are on the player page sorted by all time points. You can either guess or ask.
In the second place, the use of point rewards is actually a positive distinguishing characteristic: since many of the artists, photographers, and other creative people who participate in the game ostensibly don't need the game to be what they are (some people will be artists whether or not they "win" something for it) the use of a "chase the carrot" concept offers an enjoyable incentive device for some activities that they might already consider doing. Just like the tasks themselves provide an editorial frame to stretch the mental muscles of the player who might otherwise do "cool crazy shit" all the time on their own, no tasks required.
You know? Like sonnets where the rigidity of a form provides a launch pad for creativity. Points and their pursuit can offer an alternative motivation for creative engagement. There's a certain charm, even whimsy to it.
I would hesitate to spurn players who want more points. It's possible they don't "get the game." But it's not less virtuous on its face.
I'm making a distinction between vote points and score. I wish to spurn no player and no way of playing the "game." I argue (and may personal message you if my musings are of any interest) that it's nigh impossible to not get the game at least as it's currently structured.
In that we'd never see a submitted praxis of someone who doesn't get the game or hopefully who breaks either of the two rules. However it is within my imagination that I've yet to attain a pure level of understanding in regards to the secret rules.
I'm upset my face got cut out of your final portrait. Only my boobs made it in!
I'm voting because I thought this was really cool. And there's nothing wrong with playing for points. I mean, I /love/ points.
Hmm...I should task more. I hear that gets points.
I am, of course, sad that my player portraits continue their streak of failing to inspire (in one case having outright killed a task). Still -- very cool. :) Nice work.
Super Thanks.
I was at the hideout tonight and am too tired to do more with this task tonight, but I plan on updating this task in the near future. (hopefully by midnight tomorrow.)
The only wrong way to play, as far as I'm concerned, is to play for "killing players in non designated player killing areas" or to play for looting dead bodies. And to be honest, I'd vote 5 for that sort of thing.
This proof has been flagged by 11 of your fellow players (for the benefit of all, flags are anonymous). As such, it has been automatically disapproved. Most likely, they've posted comments explaining why they're displeased. If you think you may be the victim of a bug, injustice, or a gang of Rubins, hit up the contact page.
If you think you can fix this proof, click 'edit this completed task', then 'Un-Submit Proof' (at the bottom of the editing page). Make your changes, hit Submit again, and the flags on this proof will be cleared.
I might have voted for this if you didn't beg so much. It's unbecoming, and detracts from the rest of the praxis. Task for the love of it, even on low-level tasks.
