i decided to create a university of aesthematics logo in illlustrator. i based it on the original, to some degree.. though made it much more stylized. i wanted something more simple for my super low-tech screen printing methods. so i shortened aesthematics to 'ae' and made that the focus and moved sf0 below.

once i had made my design, i needed to transfer it to paper. unfortunately my printer was out of ink.. and i was impatient. so i decided to take a highlighter and trace right on the screen. probably not something i'd recommend, but i was careful and it worked.

then i placed a piece of really fine meshy fabric on an embroidery hoop and tightened it as much as i could and transfered the design with a sharpie.

i grabbed some mod podge and painted in the areas that i didn't want ink to go through. i did two coats to make sure i covered it completely, painting in the tiny areas with a toothpick.

let dry.. i waited overnight to be sure.

meanwhile i stayed up too late painting myself and making silly photos for fun.

next morning, i couldn't find a shirt i liked, so i made one. took some t-shirt fabric i had lying around. cut it in the right shape, sewed 4 seams, and ta-da! a shirt!

i placed newspaper between the front and back of the shirt so as not to get ink on the back if it bled. i placed the screen on the shirt, then i pulled out some fabric paint. using a napkin (super high-tech, i know!) i applied the fabric paint fairly liberally and squished it through the screen. when i pulled it off, the 0 in sf0 was missing its bottom line, so i touched it up with a toothpick.

and, since i already had it all out.. i figured.. why not make AE underwear?! grabbed a pair of cotton undies and printed them as well..

to set them, you should iron before washing, but my iron is currently on vacation, in the middle of a different project.
