The Highest Place by Ben [Sunshine]

July 9th, 2009 2:39 PM / Location: 37.882170,-122.2339

INSTRUCTIONS: Go to the highest point of anything.

So, I am madly in love with Grizzly Peak. It's a road that runs along the ridge that forms the backboard of Berkeley. Eucalyptus line one side, and a steep cliff drops off the other. I drive the road all the time--in high school, to and from school every day. It's absolutely beautiful. While driving along it this afternoon, I realized I'd never tried to get to the highest point of it. So I figured out which peak was higher than the others, and set forth!

The roadway is already pretty high up! Overlooks the whole Bay Area, really. But that's just our baseline for today!

As you can see, the hill continues up from the roadway. So, I set out to climb to the very top!

Onwards and upwards! Almost to the top!

Victory!

Victory!

This stump is the tallest flat thing on Grizzly Peak. There are trees that rise above it, but this is the tallest standable point. I stood on it and tried to take a picture of myself on it, but it wasn't particularly clear that I was on it.

The thoroughly gorgeous view from the top. Yum. Can't quite make out the Sutro Tower, it's obscured by clouds.

Mission accomplished! Whoo!

As I was walking back down towards my car, I realized this tower was considerably taller than the hill I was on... but I can't very well climb it, so I'll have to settle with the top of the hill. (And it really is BARELY taller.)
