It'd be nice if Augusto could jump in, but I reckon this makes the most sense with news that's expected around a certain time - like the results of an election, Barry Bonds breaking the home run record, or who dies in the next Harry Potter book. Aren't there sitcom plots based on avoiding that kind of info?
Sean you are absolutely right, this task was intended having in mind an expected event...I tried it myself trying not to know the facts contained inside the last Steve Jobs' Keynote.
It has been rather difficult...you have to be careful not to read a newspaper, not to meet certain friends...even browsing the internet in non-Apple sites was dangerous: an Amazon ad could be everywere!

ok I am new to this site so maybe this makes sense to everyone but me.. but can you explain how you are supposed to avoid knowing about a specific item in an abstraction such as "news" without actually knowing what it is? It seems impossible. I lived in a forest in central africa while the ISS was launched back in 1999 so I had no idea it was orbiting the earth until I read about it in 2001, but I did not know that I specifically missed that piece of news.
