It means you're doing it for non-commercial purposes. In other words, don't googlebomb your friend that's selling widgets so he can sell more widgets than the other guy that comes up on google searches. In other words, do it for the common good, not for the money.
About 2 weeks ago, I started doing this with my own name. I was pissed that you have to go through 11 pages of "Peter Gardner" on google before you get to me. I'm now on page 5... It's actually been pretty easy so far, but I'm not sure what else it's going to take to get to the top. When I saw this task, my ears perked up because it's so in-line with my current activities. ....However, I dont know that getting my name up to the top of the results qualifies as "the greater good".
my various "names" are unique enough to where its already done for me, except, if you google lowteck, one of the entries is a nudist in minnesota that goes by lowteck.
