The blur on the left is a friend of mine, who is like myself an SCA fencer. He's wielding a sword and dagger. The blur on the right is me; in my right hand you can see (albeit highly blurred) the guard of my rapier, and that black thing in my left hand is a shield.
I made it.
It's a style called an adarga (which is Spanish for "shield"), popular in 16th-century Spain. The first time I brought it to practice, people looked at it and wondered if it was wood or plastic. It's neither - like its period counterparts, it's made entirely out of leather. Three layers of eight-ounce cowhide.
I'm not yet very good at fencing with a sword and buckler, but I'm working on it. It's good for me, too, since it helps force me to fight more defensively than I normally do.
