Add a Useful Rope by TJ W

August 20th, 2010 9:10 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: I often find on my adventures that someone has installed a useful rope. It helps me to get somewhere I want to go, like up a tree, or down a steep muddy slope.

Please, install a useful rope.

Down on the ground is a dangerous place. Being up on the bridge would be much better. OH LOOK!

Be the knot.

Frankly, with a single bowline knot, I would call that a dangerous rope. This one can open when sideways forces are applied to the loop, i.e. someone stepping into it (or anything else except pulling on the rope itself). You should use at least a double bowline.

Fortunately, I doubt that you'll find anyone who can climb it. The diameter of a climbing rope isn't very suitable for that. I think it might be useful to go down from the bridge though.
