Take Something Leave Something Box by Terpsichore

October 12th, 2007 6:07 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Install a take-something-leave-something box.

i followed the latter portion of the directions and left the box on a bench in the dog park this morning as i walked to the train.

i was really excited to see what people would leave.

however, nine hours later when i returned from work, the box was gone. someone greedy, illiterate, or unobservant happened upon the box during those few hours. way to go...

on the bright side, though, i sat and watched the dogs for a while (so as not to seem like the creepy girl wandering around the park without a pet). the happy hounds were way cute.

you may want to remove your address from things you post on the internets, otherwise mischevious bears are likely to mail you things...

Dog parks rule.

As SPAR said of another short lived take something leave something box, "Who steels shit like that?" I don't get it. Who finds that box and says, "the world would be so much better if that didn't exist!"

A noble attempt, and an lovely box. I can only hope at least a few people happened past before it was removed.

The idea of creepy non-pet-owners hanging out at a dog park is intriguing. Around here the kiddie parks all have plastic signs that say something like, "adults unaccompanied by children are forbidden in the playground area," which I've always found equally creepy and absurd. (And which I've violated on many an occasion - not 'cause I'm a cruising pedophile, but because swing sets are neat. Why should little people have all the fun?) They're roughly as effective at protecting kids as big signs reading, "FEAR YOUR NEIGHBORS," if you ask me.

Now, I'm struck by the idea of making identical signs excluding non-pet-owners from dog parks. Have to match the language and font and make them up to look very official, but if it were done right it could be really funny.

Good attempt. Maybe you should try again?
