Work is So Strange by Picø ҉ ØwO

This may not completely qualify as "strange", as any librarian can testify that this happens ALL THE TIME.
A boy of 7 or 8 years old comes up to the reference desk.
boy: where are the information books?
me: what kind of information are you looking for?
boy: you know, like, books that have things that you can look up in them and read about?
me: are you looking for books about a certain place, or a certain time, or a certain person?
boy: a certain time.
me: what year or years are you looking for books about?
boy: 1981
me: what are you wanting to know about 1981? important events?
boy: camping
me: so you want to know about what camping was like in 1981?
boy: yeah, like i need a book that will talk about like what camping was like in the olden days.
me: so, you want to know about the history of camping? or how people went camping? specifically in 1981 or just in general?
boy: just in general
me: and you also want books on 1981, or just on camping?
boy: just on camping
me: okay, let's see what we have
I do a search for camping and we have two, maybe three that are at his level, all of which are REALLY general kids books that basically just describe what camping is and what kind of things might be done on a camping trip. i go to the shelf and pull off the books and flip through them so he can see what they look like.
me: these are going to have general information about camping, but I'm not sure how much they will have about the history of camping.
me: is this what you're looking for?
boy: yeah.
me: do you need anything else?
boy: no.
I have no idea if I gave that kid anything near what he wanted. I'm not sure if he knows either.
