So I work at the BYU Bookstore, and while crazy stuff doesn't happen often, when it does, it's pretty insane.

Last Wednesday, I was sitting behind the counter and a man walked up to me and asked where he could find the political fiction section. Ok, not that unusual, seeing as how the people around here love Glenn Beck; the unusual part was that the man was wearing a Raider's jersey, a Speedo, and a pair of wool socks. I pointed him off to the place he'd asked about and he trotted off and returned a few minutes later, holding a book I didn't recognize and asked me the price on it. I scanned it, and nothing came up. Tried again, nothing.

In light of this slight oddity, I went to my supervisor Chris, who checked it over and told me we didn't have this book in our system. I went back to him (where he was reading the back of a copy of Overton Window), and he set it down mumbling what I'm fairly sure was "Crazy N****rs". I informed him it wasn't in our system, and he thanked me and went off back into the shelves and came back a few minutes later with another book I didn't recognize. Same thing, asked Chris, nothing. This happened 6 times.

Finally, I followed him back and found him rifling through a bag from Barnes & Noble, which he promptly pulled a random book from, and made back for the counter where my co-worker Stefanie stared at him a moment then tried to help him. I peeked into the bag, and there was a receipt from 20 minutes before he came in, listing all of the books he had brought up asking about. Stefanie turned him away, and he came back, stuck the book on a random shelf and repeated this until the bag was empty.

Never figured out why, never saw the guy again. Still finding people asking about books that we don't have in our system that I recognized from his collection.
