Dérive by Ty Ødin

INSTRUCTIONS: Among the various situationist methods is the dérive [literally: 'drifting'], a technique of transient passage through varied ambiances. In a dérive one or more persons during a certain period drop their usual motives for movement and action, their relations, their work and leisure activities, and let themselves be drawn by the attractions of the terrain and the encounters they find there.

One can dérive alone, but all indications are that the most fruitful numerical arrangement consists of several small groups of two or three people who have reached the same awakening of consciousness, since the cross-checking of these different groups' impressions makes it possible to arrive at objective conclusions.

Undertake a dérive, and report your objective conclusions to your fellow players.

This may be a little weird, so I believe a bit of an introduction is necessary. I am introducing pictures only, because I do not want to say any more than the pictures themselves express. I went somewhere for a week. I went somewhere and did something I have never done in a place I have never been. I learned the name by signs and the talk on the street, and felt the city breathe in time with my own shallow exhalations. My pictures were scarce in all places but the city in that place. I will not tell you where I was, I will not tell you what I did. Take this derive with me; leave behind your computer desks, your couches, your office buildings, your homes, and your bodies and journey to a place far away from where you are now. If you prefer, I have posted a pieces of music that makes me think of movement and being lost in the moment.
