Art gone postal by Ariock Knight

June 17th, 2007 10:57 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make a piece of art…
Apply proper postage.
Mail it to The Envelope Collective

I have played around with origami since my first trip to San Francisco, when I was not yet even a teen and found a book on the subject out of place(?) in Chinatown. It wasn't a great book, and the crane took a LONG time for me to figure out.

Later, I was introduced to a new type of paper art. One that involved greeting cards that had been cut with precision, and when opened showed amazing little constructions. The images were always very professionally designed miniature architectural marvels.

I've done a few by hand since then, and while my designs aren't always exactly precise, they tend to be well received by those I've given them to.

I decided to design a new one for this task.

I think the photos below show what I did. The video shows my idea from design on a piece of paper to the cut-out version.

I just dropped the envelope in the mail, and it should be on the way tomorrow.

EDIT 08/10/07:

I've been taking a break from sf0 lately. I just remembered that I hadn't looked to see if my submission had been received in several weeks.

It has.

I like how you produced 3Dness from 2Dness.

Yeah…

And real 3Dness not like 3D glasses.
3D glasses are to 3D what instant oatmeal is to instant.
The only real instant breakfast is Cereal.
