Money is art.
No, not the bill itself, even though there tends to be a lot of design work that goes into it. Nay, it is the concept of money itself that is art. An architectural feat, money is a worldwide sculpture. Its roots stretch back deep into history, and yet it remains fragile, ethereal, able to crack at any moment. The glue that holds money together is trust. Trust in society, trust in government, trust in rationality. At any moment, the structure could come crashing down, and yet most of us continue to hold faith in it. The exchange of money is a dance. The concept is nearly universal, a coin or a bill exchanged between two people implies a whole host of facts that neither person will ever need to state, the "way things are" that never really needs to be discussed. This is beautiful, but also frightening; a tight-rope walk with global stability on the line.
