Trespassing by EarthMaiden, Levitating Potato

December 12th, 2007 12:34 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Go somewhere you are not allowed to go.

LP: Earth and I chose a construction site as our target for trespassing. We set out from my apartment, and began by hopping a fence and crossing a long-disused and overgrown parking lot and former strip mall. It's probably a very valuable piece of real estate, but it clearly hasn't been used in years.

We then crossed under a bridge, following a city greenway path along the creek. It's a pretty place to walk at night, but of course you're not allowed to be there after 11PM. We explored the parking lot a little before moving on to the construction site proper.

We were prepared with tools, but whoever locked the gate wasn't very careful -- we managed to squeeze through under the chain without much trouble at all.

Equipment for building high-rise hotels gets quite large -- some of the augurs they had lying around were at least 4 feet in diameter. (They're still in the process of laying the foundation.) Unfortunately, I didn't get any good pictures of them -- we were trying not to take too many flash photos. I did, however, get this photo of Emma standing on one of the ubiquitous piles of dirt.

Should have had a night vision camera - but then again, there is always next time ;-) Wonderful choice of trespassing sites... (three in one)

We hopped the fence as a shortcut to get to the construction site. This is actually entirely separate from the destination site. We didn't loiter, solicit, or distribute literature... so were we only 1/4 illegal, then?

The creek by light of distant streetlights. Taken from underneath the bridge in the previous picture. A decent fraction of the walk to the site was along this creek.

Car

Car

Someone keeps a car in the parking lot behind the construction site. What you can't see here is that the only way out of this parking lot appears to be through the construction site. The car hasn't moved in over a week.

Somehow I don't think the label on this trash can is completely accurate anymore.
