INSTRUCTIONS: Make a series of short comic strips and post them, at regular intervals, in a public place for all to see.

This is, by far, the most ambitious thing I've attempted for SFØ. It will require a lot of dedication, for seemingly no reward. But if just one person follows this from the start and doesn't give up, it will be worth it.

It's a project I've been planning for a while, but only recently started doing anything about. If it goes to plan, it will be an ongoing project, with no definite end point. I ask you not to give me your full amount of vote points straight away. Leave it a month or two and see if I'm keeping my promises. If nothing else, it may act as a slight incentive when I get an attack of writer's block. Also, on posting this praxis, I haven't technically done the task yet. However, I feel it is appropriate to post now and explain the project. It starts today with the first installment, and you can watch it grow into... whatever it turns into.

I am a fan of webcomics, and there are several I read on a regular basis. I've often thought it would be quite nice to do one myself. I can come up with good storylines, in my opinion (I'm a novellist, you know. I'm sure many people are. It's slow progress what with life and maths work getting in the way, but I like to write my ideas down).
When it comes to art, I see very clearly the images I want in my head. But when the pencil makes contact with the paper, I just can't produce what I want. I've learned to like what I can draw though (partly thanks to the kind comments of artmouse and others back when I did Player Portrait). It's a style. Maybe not the best, but it's mine. And I like drawing, it keeps me occupied. My one previous attempt at a comic is Golden Eagle-Man. I don't think I've mentioned him here before. There aren't many, but I hope I can at least finish the story I've left hanging for two years, one day...

But today a new story begins. A story of mystery and intrigue. A story of action and adventure. A story of international friendships, and rivalries, brought about by a secret agency based in San Francisco...

This is my new webcomic, a tribute to SFØ. I think it will probably make the most sense to people who play the game, as I will inevitably end up with in-jokes and references. The main storyline is going to vaguely mirror my time on SFØ. I should point out now that the characters are not entirely reflective of their real life counterparts. There will be times when I have to invent arguments for the storyline, in which characters will express views I have entirely made up.
Newer players may not recognise the characters in the first chunk of the storyline, which will be very UK-centric. But if I keep this going, I'll get to more recent things eventually, and any player who has had meaningful interaction with me on this site will be a character, or at least mentioned in conversation a few times.
I hope I can make this interesting. I have no idea how good my works of fiction seem to other people, so feedback is appreciated, as always.

I think maybe it's time to stop trying to explain myself and introduce you to the S.F. Agency. The first installment is in this praxis. But from now on, the comic will be going up at

http://sfagency.smackjeeves.com/.

I'm not sure what to do with the original copies of the comics. I was originally going to stick them up in a public place on update days, but I'll be moving from Reading in termtime to Bournemouth in the holidays, so this isn't a good solution. If anyone can think of a use for them, do let me know.

I thought once a week was too slow an update rate, and twice a week isn't quite regular, as there would be a three day gap and a four day gap. So from now on I shall update, as precisely as possible, every four days.
This may change if I think it necessary.

Installment 2 is now up, but wait!

I've decided to move to a different host site. I prefer the layout they give me on this one, and the admin panel is far easier to use. Hopefully I'll stick to this one now. I'm getting on a lot better with it.

So, the new web address for my webcomic is:
http://sfagency.smackjeeves.com/

On another note, it's kind of frustrating having the next few episodes lying unpublished on my desk, but I know that if I made my updates more frequent I wouldn't be able to keep up later...

yeah, i like them pretty well. also did you know that you can post-date episodes so they'll automatically release on your deadline? that allows you to get ahead and then not have to think about publishing on the day. i bet you knew that.

Wow, I'll have to look through your comics now!

I found out about the post-dating thing the other day, so I now have 5 comics up, but only two can actually be seen. I have them set to post publically at 17:00 my time on update days (something like 9 in the morning over there?)

I love this idea, and I love the subject matter and you can expect a vote when they have truly become regular. Sorry to say that I am not a big fan of the artwork, but you're not an artist and I applaud you doing in anyway. And actually, the style is starting to grow on me, we'll see how I feel after a couple months of this. I didn't like Randall's stick figures at first either, but now I love them. Time will unravel much with this task. Good thing I'm patient and can count to four. Waiting for tomorrow.

I didn't expect everyone to like the artwork. I'm certainly no artist, and heck, I didn't like my artwork for a very long time...
Hopefully I can construct a decent storyline to keep people interested though. I kind of know where it's going in the long run, but keeping it entertaining all the way could be challenging. I'm not a born storyteller, but I'll give it my best shot!
Really this was a way of forcing myself to do stuff for SFZero. I haven't done enough recently, and I want to keep going. And I've found that taking time to draw things is a nice break from my university workload.
I'm as interested as anyone else to see how this task progresses over time...

I'm not really sure. I just kind of stopped, and I've had an unfinished episode somewhere on my desk for 2 years. I guess I didn't really know where I was going with it.
I have a better idea now, so maybe over the Christmas break I'll continue. I never wanted to leave it unfinished like that...

Apologies in advance.
Today's installment will be up rather later than usual. In fact, it may end up being tomorrow, depending on a few things. University life and work has been making keeping to the schedule difficult recently. These comics take longer to do than they look!
I'm pleased that so far I've managed to stick to updating every 4 days, and I hope I will continue to be able to do so. I'll try my best to get this one done today, but it will be late either way.
Sorry.

You'll just have to wait and see! It could be a long wait for that particular storyline...
There are two main things I'm doing in the 'First Impressions' chapter; introducing a lot of the important characters and foreshadowing future plotlines. Some of these things won't be the main focus for a while. The time travel aspect, for example, probably won't become a central theme until after a couple of other story arcs I have in mind...

To anyone who may still be following this:
I realised that today was a scheduled update day, and that to get a comic out on time I'd have to rush it. It wouldn't be the first time.
Instead of rushing a comic today, or posting it a day late like I have done on a couple of occasions, I have decided that, for now at least, updates will be slowing down. I will bring out a comic once a week, on Saturday, as that is when the last comic went up.
This new update schedule will continue at least until my upcoming season of university exams is over, and I have more time to draw these comics and think ahead in the storyline.
I apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I also realise that this is the only thing I've been doing for SFZero for a while, and I'm sorry about that too. I seem to have been lacking drive for a very long time (probably about a year now, in all honesty), and I hope I'll get it back at some point. I still love this community and the game, even if at the moment I am just a shadow of my former self, lurking in the background and not coming out much.
