Misdirected Fan Mail by Le Renard Rouge

March 27th, 2008 10:47 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Scan the phonebook until you find someone with the same name as a famous celebrity. Send them fan mail.

Celebrities have never really been my favorite invention, although there are certainly some that I respect. I scoured telephone directories until I settled on 3 who had done something which I admired - Samuel L. Jackson, George Jetson, and Elton John. I enclosed a picture of each celebrity in each letter for them to sign and return to me (each envelope had a return address). I didn't include a stamp, because the celebrities to whom I sent letters probably have enough money to purchase a small European country, so they hardly need to scrape resources together to cough up a measly stamp.

This task took about 17 times longer than I expected because I really wanted each letter to exhibit my utmost adoration for the 3 celebs. I also decided to do each letter in its own style, just to shake things up a bit, rather than writing in the same ink the same way with the same style. Maybe its just me.

I hope the unwitting recipients of my letters have a smile come to their face when they learn that they are adored and thought of! Special people deserve special recognition, don't you think?

Samuel L. Jackson's Letter...

Dear Mr. Jackson,

I hold your career accomplishments in the highest esteem. It is utterly astonishing to me how you haven't won numerous Oscars for your fantasmo performances thus far. The Academy must be completely disillusioned to have not selected you for a single one of your epic fulfillments. Your acting career has really inspired me to pursue acting myself, although I could never hope to achieve half of the monumental triumphs you have attained. Young African-American men are heartened by your retention of a strong black cultural identity, and for that I salute you. I grew up worshipping you as the great Jedi Master Mace Windu, and I have been awed ever since at your ability to wield a purple lightsaber with such masculinity. Your incredible portrayal of Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up at rapt attention. And as for your recent virtuosic exhibition in Snakes on a Plane, I can only say one word. Utterly magnificent! You really have a prodigic talent for blowing me away in every movie you grace with your presence. Keep up the excellent work Mr. Jackson! (I'm personally voting for you as the next Bond).

Sincerely,

Chris Mann

P.S. Would you please sign the enclosed picture and return to the address on the envelope? Thanks a million!

George Jetson's Letter (Written with my non-dominant hand to emulate handwriting of a younger fan)...

Dear Mr. Jetson,

I really like you! You are my favorite guy on TV, and I would really like to meet you soon. I really want that I could live in a house like yours up high in the sky. But my mom says that you are really far away in some place called Future and that it would be hard for me to meet you. Can you fly your spaceship and visit me? I would like you to alot! I wish that my dad would be more like you. You are never mean to your wife Jane and you are always nice to your kids Elroy and Janet. I named my new puppy Astro just like you! I am sorry Mr. Spacely is mean to you at work and I hope he learns that you are a good worker and try hard lots. Will you please write a letter to me? (Please read other side ->) I would like that a lot. Have a good day Mr. Jetson!

From,

Christopher Mann

And can you please sign on the picture with my letter and send it back to me? I want to show all my friends at school. Thank you!

Elton John's Letter (written in cursive with red ink, for variety's sake)

Dear Sir Elton John,

All I can say is WOW. For more than 3 decades you have rocked the world with unbeatable live performances, and I think that I speak for the entire human race when I say thank you. Your affinity for color-tinted eyewear makes me smile every single time I witness you, especially the last 7 times I have seen you in concert. I can listen to your masterpieces anytime, anywhere and still achieve an acoustic climax no matter what mood I'm in. Your unparalleled skill at singing and piano has encouraged thousands everywhere to do likewise, and you fill the world with happiness each and every time you walk onstage. The thing that impresses me most about you is your strong homosexual conviction and how you embrace your gay identity with a gusto, content and dignified. You are a golden standard for all homosexuals on Earth - you show them that they need not be afraid to espouse homosexuality. I fiercely advocate that homosexuality is nothing to be ashamed about, but rather to be proud of. You are a role model of the highest quality, and I just wanted to inform you that I truly appreciate everything you have benevolently (Please turn page) bestowed upon the world. Sir Elton John, you are truly something special. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Enchanted,

Chris Mann

P.S. Would you be so kind as to autograph the photo I have sent along with this letter of adulation? I have always wanted your autograph, but Ebay isn't too reliable these days... Thanks ever so much!

I voted because it's a really good completion, then I realised that the completion is a bit dubious.

Did you send these to people with the same name as the celebrities or to the celebrities?

They were to ordinary people with the same names as the celebrities. I have no idea how I would get the real celebrities' addresses.

You have to update if you get any pictures back. That would be supercool.

Ah well the George Jetson through me off, I didn't honestly think that there would be someone with a parent that cruel.

If you get a message from George, I wonder if that would count as sending a message to the future.
