The central concept for this task resulted from a brainstorming session between Cara Bear and Tyrone Tyrone. They had decided that we should do something different than the other praxis for this task.

The two of them decided to create a larger-than-life egg, dress it up, and photograph it inside the local adult bookstore, THE BOOK RANCH ADULT EMPORIUM. With this in mind, Cara Bear, Tyrone Tyrone, and Papa Smurf began construction of the egg.

It was initially decided to create the egg by building an infrastructure of chicken-wire and coating the infrastructure with strips of fabric covered in plaster (ala paper mache). Using this method, the egg was created in two halves.
Bottom infrastructure

While the bottom of the egg dried solid, the top was far too flimsy and malformed. At this time John Galt joined in the task and he and Tyrone Tyrone decided on a different approach to re-form the egg. It was decided to cover the existing structure in fabric and to fill out the form using poly-fill. Initial tests with Papa Smurf wearing the costume yielded satisfying results, though there was an unsightly seam between the two halves. Cara Bear then had the idea to cover the seam with a white blanket acquired from Tyrone Tyrone's closet (there was not enough left over fabric to cover the entire seam).

Having the egg physically completed, we now needed something for it to do. It was decided that the initial idea was too simplistic and did not quite fit with the idea of a "secret egg." So we expanded the idea by adding a story involving the egg being photographed "Private Investigator-style" as to give the egg a real-life secret.

On the morning of June 29, 2008, John Galt, Cara Bear, and Tyrone Tyrone set out to attain the photographs with Tyrone Tyrone agreeing to wear the costume (Papa Smurf was the original bearer of the costume, but was unable to attend). We started close to home, with the egg being transported in John's new car (it was the only large enough to contain the egg), at the Grandview Cemetery. Several visitors in the graveyard witnessed the mayhem, and they appeared to find it quite amusing in spite of the morbid surroundings.

Following this, we went to the nearby City Park for the photographs of the playground and fishing. The fishing rod (supplied by Tyrone Tyrone) was fastened by cutting two slits in the side of the egg and passing a quick-tie through the two slits. This was also the time that we cut an eye hole into the front of the egg so that Tyrone Tyrone could move around inside the egg without someone guiding him.

From the park, we trekked to the local Egg & I restaurant to acquire those photographs.

From there, we made it to the original location, the Book Ranch Adult Emporium. Despite some odd looks from patrons and employees of the establishment, we got the pictures we needed.

Finally, we decided to go find a crowd. The annual Brewers' Festival (or "Brewfest"), where all of the bars in downtown Fort Collins open up and offer special deals offered the perfect opportunity. We received several strange looks from the locals as we trekked through the large crowd, though many found it amusing that a giant egg was in their midst. After several minutes of walking through crowds and dancing to local music, it was time to head back home.

John Galt then took the photos, and using Photoshop Elements, altered them to appear as P.I. photos (black and white, somewhat blurry, with the red circle and blacked out eyes). Using Microsoft MovieMaker, these photos were then arranged in a video of sorts to showcase the "evidence."

Enjoy!

That's certainly a new take on the task, and a thoroughly entertaining one.

Have you still got the egg? If so, you may be one small, flexible person in a dog suit away from making like fletcher.
