Standing in the shadow of art. by beneath?

November 13th, 2007 2:00 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Spend part of a sunny day looking for captivating shadows.
Find one you have an affinity for and outline it with chalk.
Document the time somewhere in the outline.
Repeat until you feel you have a new understanding for shadows and light.

Consider returning to the same spot and tracing the same objects shadow at a different time of day.

Shadows of the night.
One of the things i have always been fascinated is the quality of light during the night. Even different light bulbs can change the entire mood of the area being illuminated. However, with this wonderful world of artificial illumination comes a completely different type of shadow. Unlike during the day, object now have multiple shadows in many directions as a result of the different light sources. The contrast between light and dark also seems to be heightened making the outlines almost glow.
While i find these lines incredible entrancing during the night, they are even more spectacular during they day, when they interact with the shadows of the daytime and appear to be merely random chalk lines, completely disconnected from the object that formed them.
Enjoy.

p.s. i apologize for the poor image quality. my digital camera does not do well at night.
p.p.s. i must give credit to ellis g. for the idea

This task is surprisingly cool. Nice interpretation.

I particularly like the photos with the yellow columns in - it literally looks like a pool of light.

Awesome.

Strong work. Agreed Mr. Fish, those pools of light are mesmerizing. Everything looks like a cartoon with a chalk outline at night. I approve. Welcome to the game Clayton.

This is one of the first tasks I wrote for SF0.
It took a long time for anyone to do this one, but I am glad it got kicked off with such a stellar performance. Welcome to the game!

An uncommonly cool interpretation of this task.

And a somewhat belated welcome to the game.
