Mail Something Amazing by Magpie

December 6th, 2007 11:37 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Find something that amuses you to no end and mail it off to a friend that you haven’t spoken to in ages. You must use the United States Postal Service

Well, it doesn't quite fit the letter of the law but the spirit because what I sent was not amusing but it was amazing.

I have not spoken to my parents for about a year, because they couldn't deal with the fact that their daughter is a homo although they've known for 6 years now. I have been trying to write this lettre back to my mum for months now and have not been able to do it until I thought, well shit I can write this really difficult letter and get points for this task (kind of cracked I know).

The lettre is amazing because I came at it from such a calm and rational space, I said what I needed to say. Thoughts that have been in my head everyday as I walked to the bars on the castro or rode the muni. I basically told them my life story as a gay and that my field hockey team did not have anything to do with it, although Jodie Foster in the film Candleshoe probably did. I stood up for myself and my self worth, and let them know that there are far more important things that we should be doing like loving and supporting each other.

It is such a relief to have finally written the lettre. I guess I will now just have to wait and see what the reply will be. Whether I just send my parents a card on Christmas with an up date every year, or whether they actually want to be a part of my life again.

Of it goes on it's merry way to the middle of Florida.

Why would they suspect that field hockey might have some sort of influence on sexuality?? Then again, that womens sport is known for it's big brute lesbians with a taste for whacking the other teams in the shins... Why, just last weekend, I was running up for the ball and a girl tripped me with her stick and I did a ninja dive to the turf--with her on top of me. Intentional...?

RAH HOCKEY!!!

Impressive.

I am amazed by your willingness to do this, and to share it with us. Thank you.

SFZero must be doing something right, if it can inspire you to do this. Well done, and good luck.

Best Wishes

I sincerely hope this brings about more understanding and that you are happier and healthier as a consequence of the letter.

It's beautiful and brave of you to use this task to do such a difficult thing. I consider it an honor to share in your experience.

I think we should all celebrate that SF0 helped provide some extra oomph for you to finish doing something that you've wanted to do. Congratulations.

The lettre is amazing because I came at it from such a calm and rational space, I said what I needed to say. That is amazing. Also, yes. Jodie Foster.

I do hope your parents respond well.
