Strange Garb by Magpie, Lank, anna one

March 18th, 2008 12:18 AM / Location: 37.787360,-122.4081

INSTRUCTIONS: Go somewhere dressed in unorthodox clothes.

For instance, you could sunbathe at the beach in a three-piece suit or go to work in a kimono. Use your judgment: for instance, if you're somehow a modern geisha, then wearing a kimono to work wouldn't be so unorthodox.

Take photos as proof.

Beware... THE BRIDES OF MARCH!

Looks like you kids had fun.
"Unsuspecting brides suspect nothing." Did you get a few double-takes standing out there, or did you stay away from the general mass of brides?

We were in the thick of the bride mass most of the time, but had our own side missions to the Disney store and what-not.

I got a lot of strange looks on the Muni and while walking up Stockton to join the other brides. After we were all together, folks just loved it.

You'll notice that I wasn't around except for the bits in the bars. I was acting in a little film project... when I called the crew to let them know I was on my way, I mentioned that I'd be wearing a wedding dress.

I thought that they'd think that was odd, but instead, they were excited.

Apparently, nothing is strange here.

Ever.

I dig the "Gorgeous." photo. Very regal.

Hmmm. It would have been particularly wacky to go to a laundromat with a bunch of laundry while wearing that outfit, and to have claimed that all your other clothes were dirty...

I'm drooling and humping my office chair right now.

I can't believe i missed this. That business with the boot-licking is too much.

Rongo - My dress is now in tatters on the floor and I really don't want to touch it, other wise I would totally do my laundry in it.

Bex - Wow, that's quite an image. Wish you could have joined the festivities. It was a pretty amazing event as you can see!

I said to anna at one point, "Why isn't Bex here? This is totally her cup of tea."

Sigh.

The idea of men in dresses is perverse and often baffling. But I think it's awesome anyway. Great job!

I don't think that men in dresses is perverse at all. Look at the romans, and hell farmers in the UK used to wear smocks up until the beginning of this century. I think that Lank looked rather pretty!!

It is widely considered perverse in a sexual way, But I like to say "Whatever floats your boat..." Thus I am using it to merely mean twisted, the definition I recieved from Dictionary.com . The togas that the Rmans wore, I'm not positive it could be called a dress exactly. And smocks aren't worn all the way around are they? Whatever, I do agree that he looks nice!

I guess because I live in the Castro SF, my exposure to men in skirts and feminine attire has been so great that I no longer think it odd. I would actually think it weirder for me to wear a dress (see profile pic) than most of my male pals.
I do believe that the smock as I remember it was a fully covering garment, usually worn with a big floppy hat. I think that alot of fashion in the 60's was based on this odd farmers attire.
I guess it's all about context and type of dress, no one would look good in one of those awful flowery dresses, but I have seen guys look super hot in little skirts and tight t-shirts.
