Get up, Take a shower, Eat Breakfast, Go to work by Minimal Space
August 24th, 2010 4:05 PMWell I've never heard of anyone doing otherwise, so why not try it out? Usually when I wake up, there's a shower and dressing and only sitting for my shoes, so I just leaned on the wall for that. But getting to work proved a little tough. There are seats in my car, a seat (however uncomfy) on my bike... but there is a way to get there without seats.

So I decided to hoof it to work. Judging from google maps it was roughly 2 miles straight to work, 3 if I wanted starbucks...
Obviously I wanted starbucks...

So that's breakfast, walking to work and eating and taking pictures on my cell phone. :) It wasn't such a bad walk really, a little humid and what not, however in the end my feet weren't sore, I was feeling good. I somewhat new that standing would be easy for the first few hours of the day. I work at a shop that used to be a restaurant, and I work the front counter, which is a modified bar, so the desk is high, I just took my chair and put it in the sales office for the day, just in case. So my work space looked like this...

Not too bad. Well after things got rolling for the day, it became a little tiring so I came up with the plan to stretch about every hour or so, doing the one where you lift your legs up behind your rear one at a time, and touching my toes.

Well lunch rolled around and I decided to walk down about a mile to the local grocery store with a more organic all natural flare and get the asian hot bar they had. I think I had some chicken in some sauce and some rice... with some other stuff in it. (They didn't have the tags put out labeling the food. So instead of sitting outside and enjoying the day I stood by the chairs...

watching them as they mocked me.

Though a side note is on the table, was my cookie. (I thought if I wasn't going to sit for lunch, I totally deserve a cookie!) Then walked back to lunch. After lunch things just went downhill. At that point my manager was offering me a seat, and my boss even offered a ride home. Each offer started to sound better as I worked at the computer more. I stacked my monitor and keyboard on some paper, which you can see in the earlier photo of my workspace. As the day dragged on I started to think of more clever ways to feel comfortable... I tried leaning more often, and putting one foot up on bars and boxes. At one slow point with no in-store traffic I slipped my shoes off.

This almost renewed me completely for about an hour. It just felt nice for my feet to decompress. (And no they DIDN'T smell! Though i don't think i would have cared much if they did.) Though about an hour later my back was a little tired...

To make a long story short... because literally I'm just talking about standing around all day...

I walked home... and the first thing to come off was...

I showered and let the dogs out... and decided the rest was best left to video.
:) Man I'm not getting up for at least an hour.

Love this task, Love this completion.
I vote five for challenging your body and winning, and the satisfaction that comes from being done!!!!
awww, thank you!
I think satisfaction might be an understatement. It was like... some new.. more powerful word, like megasatisfactron. :)
Funny story, I stood for over twelve hours one day at work (circa 1994), and when I got home that night, I took my shoes off, and it felt so good, that I never put them back on again.
I can understand that lol.
I so want to be a rebel and wear flip flops to work today. I think my boss would have a cow. :( I love my flip flops more than any other shoes.
This is great, because it's such a simple thing that lots of people COULD do it, but hardly anyone goes ahead and DOES it. Nice!
Thanks rongo(x2) :)
It was a long day, but looking back I enjoyed the fact that I did it. I hope most of the tasks I try will be like that. (If not, why do them, right?)
This is great. This is how all "Everyday life" should have been. You sir, rock.
Thanks! :)
Trying to go slow and think about the next one I do now. My legs were so sore for like... 4 days after. haha
i was trying to think of the most difficult thing to do whilst not sitting all day... and i think driving would be extremely difficult if not impossible while not sitting... but then i thought a little more, and concluded that taking a shit would be pretty fucking difficult.
on a moral level, i would not detract points if you did not accomplish that. then again, i'm not sure i'd want to ever see documentation of that particular feat to begin with. haha, so thanks for potentially sparing us.
...unlike Lincoln sharing his head popping out of a hairy plywood vagina!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
or rather, his Puns of the Navarone.
*shudders*
haha, sorry Lincoln. many of us enjoy your outrageous nature... but some of your outrageousness is not for everyoneeee
(and yep, i know you're full aware & by golly that's never stopped you before!)
cheers!
LOL, Yeah people would ask me, "What do you do if you have to poop?" I'd just reply with, "Well I'm not going to think about it until the time comes." Never came up, so.... I'm lucky... I suppose.
Plywood vaginas sound really ... REALLY uncomfortable. Just saying.
I wanted to say how much I appreciate and feel for the people working retail jobs who do have to stand for long periods of time. As a vet tech I would go and go without sitting, and I know that, no lie, people can stand for a long while, (Maybe not while making a point to eat standing or walk to work... but seriously having to eat while on the clock or on call if they are a nurse)... so to those people, I give a big ol' thank you. :)
Let's all go get feet rubs now!
