A Real Life Secret Egg by Icarus

July 10th, 2008 4:58 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: You'll know what to do.

Secret eggs are the little surprises that are hidden into places you don't expect (sometimes called "easter eggs" in movies or games). These are my real life secret eggs, and I introduce them to you via the ancient art form of SONNET:

I own a set of painted egg-shaped things
depicting nature on their vivid shells.
From long gone trip to China I did bring
these beautiful fake eggs I cherish well.

This task does tear my weary heart in two -
I find myself in quite divided thought:
to make some real life secret eggs for you,
or keep the foreign treasure I had bought.

And thus I settled on a compromise;
out of eight eggs I would keep only one.
The rest would hopefully bring some surprise
to people's lives, adding much joy and fun.

So sate yourself with this small praxis fix:
Enjoy my secret eggs - click the pics!

Cherished Eggs

Cherished Eggs

They are exquisite. They were also pricey. I spent a lot on shopping in China... Queen of bargain hunting, if I do say so myself. Which I just did. So there.

Egg among Eggs (Stylised)

Egg among Eggs (Stylised)

The one egg I decided to keep, amongst other golden eggs which I tend to eat for breakfast, to assert my dominance. Take that, egg!

Urgh, too much love...

Urgh, too much love...

Did the tree feel pain as somebody chipped this heart into its trunk? (Whoever did it didn't do a good job. The impression wasn't deep enough to put a real life secret egg in it. Hmph.)

Lonesome Bicycle

Lonesome Bicycle

Every time I see a bicycle I remember the time I lopped off my toe in the gears of one. That was kind of messy.

Poetic License

Poetic License

The bird is depicted flying, yet it is stuck to the stone and caged in this bike basket. Is that supposed to be poetic or something?

Under the Station

Under the Station

The dank and rank underground of the train station.

Don't Stick Your Fingers Into Dirty Holes

Don't Stick Your Fingers Into Dirty Holes

Such a pretty egg, tucked away in a dirty hole. Probably housing a family of rats. (I like rats. They bite.)

Telephone Egg

Telephone Egg

Upon pushing this entirely into the slot, I was unable to take it out. The next person to want his change is going to be not-so-happy, but at least whoever repairs it will get a real life secret egg surprise!

THERE

THERE

I climbed the fence and balanced a real life secret egg on the beam - unfortunately its not visible in this photo. So I chucked in a big arrow pointing to its location.

Precariously Balanced Egg

Precariously Balanced Egg

This grate was just out of reach. And I tend to want to get things that are just out of reach. So I jumped until I got it to stay put, which took many, many jumps.

On a Roof

On a Roof

Inspired by Tac Haberdash's back yard exploits in his derive, I climbed into unknown territory to leave some presents in the form of real life secret eggs.

Eggplant. (GROAN)

Eggplant. (GROAN)

A real life secret egg in a pot!

Swans

Swans

Nothing of particular interest can be found in this picture description.

Naked Pix! Wait.

Naked Pix! Wait.

A naked clothes hanger, a naked cloud, and a naked tree. I wasn't naked.

Final Egg, in a Nest

Final Egg, in a Nest

I took the wire ends and created a metal nest for the final real life secret egg. The end! Congratulations on bothering to read it all. It's because I'm just that good, right? ...Right?

Another fantastic completion - nice :)

Also, ouch - do you only have nine toes now, a pathological fear of bikes, or both? I can only imagine that as being extremely painful...

What doesn't kill ye only makes ye stronger?

I only have 9 toes, and I have a pathological fear of showing my feet to people. I'm still biking though.

Same thing happened to me in Black Rock City a couple years ago. Gears got so gummed up from the dust that they stopped and my feet went into the spokes. I grew back most of what I lost though.

I'm going to be thinking about those beautiful little eggs sitting in those hidden away places waiting to be found all day...

Your Chinese eggs, they're out in the world now?

Oh, I so want to know what the person who finds an egg perched on top of that beam thinks of it...

You've unleashed little bits of unexpected beauty out into the world.

And I'm loving it.

I may check back in some of the more accessible locations to see where the eggs have gone.
