Information Insertion by Brock Dubbels

INSTRUCTIONS: Insert information in a place that has an absence of information.

I have been in public education for all of my life, and the way it works can be hard to swallow, if not difficult to digest. As a student, parent, and instructor, I have always looked at the finished product and wondered why it is we go through this process.

I recently heard the term diploma dispenser, and was told I worked at one. I wanted to know what was meant by that so I asked. I was told that most of the students were leaving with debt and a piece of paper, and that it was still not getting them a job.

One of my students told me what it was worth to go through two years. I was directed to the restroom. I have to admit, most of what I see kids paying for in colleges and putting up with in schools have few utilitarian purposes.

I decided that since I was resigning my position, I would create truth in advertising. I made an announcement in one of the few public spaces where a person can be alone with their thoughts, and also the location of the diploma dispenser.

Some people get an education without going to college; the rest get it after they get out.

What always got me, and the reason I resigned was the arrogance of some of the faculty and their views that they were better than the students they served, or that they preferred to work with the "dumb kids." That somehow they had been stuck doing what they were doing. What wondered was if they were so skilled, why were they teaching for less than they could be performing their skill for? If you are an electrician, wouldn't you make more being one than teaching people to become one?

Those who cannot do, teach.

Perhaps this is truth.

Having been a high school drop out and a dumb kid, I went to college. I have to say that those were great years, and I am still enjoying the fruits of university by putting the frosting on ten years of graduate school and all the debt I have accrued.

I think it is important to keep in mind that those loans, and all that time in class could have been spent on other things supported by a passport and a library card. Now that I am at the end of it all, I realize where it all comes out

Maybe Frank Zappa was right

Drop out of school before your mind rots from exposure to our mediocre educational system. Forget about the Senior Prom and go to the library and educate yourself if you've got any guts. Some of you like Pep rallies and plastic robots who tell you what to read. Forget I mentioned it. This song has no message. Rise for the flag salute.

I found that many of these degrees were being put to good use

I found that this simple diagram described the process from consumption through the digestive process. Many choose not to retain their learning.

Such a shame.

Such waste.

You could always have put up a different bodily system, had you known which stall to select...
