Confession by help im a bear

November 14th, 2007 10:23 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Confess to something you are ashamed of.

My grandfather had a stroke when I was twelve or thirteen. He did not die from it, but became a drooling mess, unable to restrain his gut emotional responses to things--often breaking down sobbing in the middle of meals, things like that. He also lost a large amount of his movement, and had to use a wheelchair.

He and my grandmother would host these beach family reunions at the Outer Banks every summer, and it was always a huge hassle maneuvering him around in his wheelchair on the beach, through the houses, etcetera.

I remember once getting so fed up with it that I muttered "Why hasn't he just died yet?" beneath my breath.

She didn't say anything, but I know my aunt (his daughter) heard me.

I vote for anyone brave enough to honestly complete this task.

Agreed with the two above. Also, many of us think things when we're frustrated that we don't say aloud, and sometimes, we do let them slip. While it's something worth confessing, it's not something worth hanging onto for much longer. The fact that it bothers you shows you care.

Part of me is grateful that I don't qualify to complete this task. There are things I'd rather not revisit.

Welcome to the game.

I agree with everyone here, especially Charlie Fish. While reading this I was thinking of what I would do for this as I have done some things I am not proud of, and I was thinking about which one I would post up for all to see. I am both relieved and saddened that I won't get the chance to decide.

Like a stinging nettle. Well done.
