Talk to a Telemarketer by Rin Brooker
January 8th, 2009 2:32 PMFirst thing in the morning my highschool went on lockdown. I was locked in my first period class and no one in the school was alowed to leave their classrooms. I had a doctor appointment but there weren't going to let me go. Luckily, the principal knows me so I became the first one to break to no leaving durring a bomb threat rule. Since then I've heard other people saw me leave and demanded out too. Freedom ftw.
That's how I came to be home in the middle of a school day when Helen called. She was trying to sign me up for (she asked me not to say what online) and I got her to talk to me. She was calling from Anchorageand she's in her early 20s. Her job is a thankless one, at least 19-20 people hang up on her or curse at her or are mean. She mostly stays in it because the pay is good and she's trying to pay for night school classes and take care of her young daughter named Cindy. Her co-workers are funny people, but everyone is usually depressed by the end of the day. They are better company than kids in high school. She was considered a nerd there. At this point I told her a nerd joke:
Q: How many DBZ characters does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: Just one, but it'll take him the whole season!
She thought it was hilarious. at this point 'Greg' was giving her a look and she had to go. it was nice getting to know her. I told her she can call back anytime.

wow... you beat me to it... and school today was RIDICULOUS!
good job.
that's awesome.. very nice (borat high five). and yes. school was insane.
bomb threats, my arse.
I forgot to mention to everyone that as I was leaving early I passed a bomb disposal truck heading towards the school, like with the huge supposedly-explosion-proof steel tank. I haven't heard anything, but there might have actually been something.
Also, you win.
yeah, i was talking to someone on the phone when it pulled up and i got a play by play of it. scary huh?
Excellent, and it sounds like you two really made a connection.
This is very sweet, hats off!
