Cooking!
Seems like a good day for a task like this. It's been raining steadily all day, and there's really not much hope of it letting up. So I'll turn to the kitchen to prepare a spherical molten chocolate cake.

As per the recipe, butter and milk were melted in a saucepan and added to a mixture of eggs and sugar, with a pinch of salt.

There was a slight problem with eggs rolling off the counter and breaking on the floor, but the incredible spontaneous cleanup system took care of it perfectly.

There were no magically spherical baking molds to be found, so some improvisation was necessary. Lo and behold, oven-friendly soup bowls seemed like they would work perfectly for something like this.

And they were much more interesting than cupcake tins, at any rate.

Upon a quick glance into the oven at then end of cooking, the tops of the individual cakes looked incredibly... not cooked. I let it sit in the oven for an extra minute.
They were taken out an inspected...

And very, very carefully combined.
Despite that, the first potential sphere ended up as more of a mess than anything else. The fact that the center wasn't solid meant the thing kind of imploded when I dumped it on top of the bottom cake.

So, on to round two.
These were put back in the oven for an additional few minutes, then allowed to cool for several minutes (in hopes that the centers would be just a little less... molten. After removal from the oven, they were cooled for about ten minutes.

The bottom hemisphere held its shape nicely. So did the top. It looked like a complete success until, of course, they squished.
So it goes.
So. Spherical baking was a success in some aspects, and a hugely ridiculous failure in others. This will be attempted again, I assure you, at a later date.

Woo! There is no failure if it involves chocolate!

I like that you decided to attempt this with a molten recipe, rather than something more structural.

i figure if you're going to go for it, you may as well really go for it. and that includes baking something new every time.
solid cakes are delicious, but this was really ridiculously good. even if not ultimately round.
Valiant!
(and undoubtedly delicious)
