Drunk Squirrel in the Morning Blues. by GYØ Kieran!, GYØ Ben

December 28th, 2007 6:31 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Write 10 songs in one day.

The subject matter can be whatever you'd like, but remember: recordings are required.

This task is a gift (or a dare) for YellowBear.

The song players don't work, can you offer any assistance? - Thanks Spidere!

I had a few ideas from the start, but I swiftly realised I needed a UoA member to sign up for this, so I roped in my friend Kieran.

Yes, he did collaborate (albeit rather slightly).

He gave me a list of 5 words, to work into the lyrics of my tunes.

Here is that list of awesome:
crustacean
ledge
orange
burnt
clearance

This was going to be a tough one.

I decided basically straight away that my subject would be SFØ.

So... here goes, I guess.

Oh yeah, and this isn't the first time I've been featured on an album...

Office Blocks

Date: 27th December 2007
Time: 1pm exactly

I should point out that "a day" = 24 hours. Not necessarily 00:00 -> 00:00 the following day.

I should also point out that I have a cold, and my throat hurts quite badly.

And finally - no, I cannot play guitar. It is me playing in the recordings. But I suck. Self-taught. I play for fun, etc.

Song 1: My Trajectory (2:31)

This, being song number one, had me thinking. I thought that this had to be bouncy, to set this "album" in a positive mood, so it turned out to be an acoustic folk rock ditty with a catchy chorus; the entire thing is comprised of four chords - D, G, A and Em.

Hurrah for simple tunes.

My Trajectory

Signing on for the first time
Selecting a group that would be mine
I didn't quite know what to expect

There were five choices
Hearin' so many voices
But the red one is what I chose to select

My trajectory
It's my directory of tasks
My trajectory
Hide our faces behind our coloured masks

I was happy with my direction
I had a VR task collection
Perfect for those winter nights alone

Then it dawned upon me
It was as if they were trying to con me
That I was the main player on my own

My trajectory
It's my directory of tasks
My trajectory
Hide our faces behind our coloured masks

Then I came to know
People had no group like Rubin and Spar
I didn't know what to do
I wouldn't see it through
I never thought my tasking would go this far

My trajectory
It's my directory of tasks
My trajectory
Hide our faces behind our coloured masks

My trajectory
It's my directory of tasks
My trajectory
My trajectory
It's my directory of tasks

Time taken: 55 minutes

Song 2: Solo Tasking (1:33)

This one, I wanted to use my electric, so this one just ended up being a completely improvised guitar solo after a little mess about - I know, I suck at playing, so please don't tell me I'm doing it wrong.

Solo Tasking

Time taken: 35 minutes

Song 3: Biome Blues (1:17)

I wanted to a song per group, and I wanted a different style altogether. So it's a 12-bar-blues thing with POOR singing; I was making it up as I went along, really.

Biome Blues

The environment around you is pretty fine
In fact you see it all the time
It's every colour you can see
It's got all the nature for you and me
But what I'm trying to say is
I got the Biome Blues

My tasking's off today, hell oh heck
But how on earth can you beat lowteck?
He's way too far up the leaderboard
It's amazing how much time he can afford
But what I'm trying to say is
I got the Biome Blues

Everyone knows that Biome's green
And I'd be red with fury if you haven't seen
The yellow and black of a bumblebee
But the Biome Blues have got to me!

What's gonna happen in the new era?
When we shift into next year-ah
Will Biome be living? Will Biome be dead?
One more time, I repeat what I said
What I'm trying to say is,
I got the Biome Blues

Yeaahhhh.

Time taken: 45 minutes

Song 4: The Secret Rules (2:09)

Simple percussion piece, created by beating up my sofa and hitting some bottles - another different style. It's slightly out of time, and a little mysterious - but aren't the real secret rules like that?

The Secret Rules

Time taken: 25 minutes

Song 5: Ode To Aesthematics (1:19)

Mexican/Spanish traditional style tune, with one of the worst accents you'll hear in a long time. Hpwever, I did manage to fit in every single required word in one song!

Ode To Aesthematics

Five groups emerged from the heat of the orange sun
They were restless, burnt, and no-one knew of them just yet

It was clear to see that the University Of Aesthematics
Was going to triumph overall. It was the largest,
The broadest
And the most creative, too.

All was going well for the University
But then...

Revolution broke out.

Things were restless.

It was at the very end of the year that the UofA was backed onto a precarious ledge
Being backed into the grimy sea below, where the crustacean lives
However, clearance was given to the group, and it would live to fight another day.

Or would it?

Time taken: 15 minutes

Song 6: Blitzkrieg BART (2:12)

I didn't write the music for this (obviously a Ramones track) but I did write the updated lyrics, and the guitar part was also played by yours truly.

This song is dedicated to GYØ Tom, as he is BART and likes punk stuff.

B-A-R-T
B-A-R-T
B-A-R-T
B-A-R-T

Going in a straight line
To see what you can find
Geography is my rhyme
The Bart PA

Going round the backstreets
Walking with your feet
Seeing people you meet
The Bart PA

B-A-R-T
Travelling around now
What they want, I don't know
We're all packed up and ready to go!

Going in a straight line
To see what you can find
Geography is my rhyme
The Bart PA

Going round the backstreets
Walking with your feet
Seeing people you meet
The Bart PA

B-A-R-T
Travelling around now
What they want, I don't know
We're all packed up and ready to go!

Going in a straight line
To see what you can find
Geography is my rhyme
The Bart PA

Going round the backstreets
Walking with your feet
Seeing people you meet
The Bart PA

B-A-R-T
B-A-R-T
B-A-R-T
B-A-R-T

Time taken: 30 minutes

Song 7: The HC Song (1:32)

I wanted to incorporate a 3/4 time song in there somewhere, and the practically monotonous tune caught on. So here it is.

The HC Song

Sociology
Is covered by thee
Oh great mystic force
Known as the HC

Your voice - it's boomin'
Your progress is zoomin'
But you teach me so much about
Being a human

It all comes to rest
With the bold yellow crest
Our populus thanks you
For being the best

Fantastic feats
They are hard to beat
When p00n and the kitty
Grafitti the street

It's hard to compare
When you are right there
Watching over all of us with you
Unglazing stare

On the UoA start war
It's more complex than before
But all groups will stay the same
I know that for sure

My message is this
Just go reminisce
And think about the superpower
Of the Human Crisis.

Time taken: 30 minutes

Song 8: Equivalenz (1:52)

Simply named "Equivalenz", this track is mainly a test to see how well my bass and guitar playing go together well - and I was starting to run out of time. It was 10:15am at this point the following day, and I needed 2 more songs done.

Equivalenz

Time taken: 45 minutes (I kept screwing up the bass part)

Song 9: SFZeRap (Namecheck'd) (0:55)

I must be going mad. Trying to do yet another style, so I did a name-check style rap, naming everyone on the first page and a bit.

After playing it back a couple of times, it's starting to sound like The Ultimate Showdown, but whatever.

Word.

SFZeRap (Namecheck'd)

Yo, yo, yo

What's happenin' in da hizzouse?

Dis a name-check, yo.

If yo' on dis list, yo' somebody - ya dig?

It starts with Lank and anna one
lowteck, Lincoln, Burn Unit's son
Charlie Fish and p00n p00n too
Plus the GY0 crew

Revolution and Villain are all the same
And the guy with the unpronouncable name
Eddy, Spidere, Mink and Bex
Vixen's name centres around an X

Cyber Kitty and Rainbow Bright
If I keep namin folks', we'll be here all night
Loki's in blue, aardvark black
Flitworth yellow and spar on his Mac

Sean, Ian, Sam I forgot to mention
They require special attention
All these guys, they're the heroes
In the world of SF0.

Word.

Time taken: 15 minutes

Song 10: God's Gift To Tasking (2:05)

This is just a simply-chorded minor piece about those mindless fools who come on and do nothing for their tasks.

God's Gift To Tasking

You think you're special
You think you're great
But I think you're a douchebag
And I won't hesitate

To flag
Your crappy tasks

No effort whatsoever
Google this and that
You wrote a sentence without grammar
You really are a brat who

Does
Nothing at all

You think you're special
You think you're great
But I think you're a douchebag
And I won't hesitate

You think you're God's gift to tasking
You think you're God's gift to tasking
You think you're God's gift to tasking
You think you're God's gift to tasking
Tasking
Tasking

But you suck

Time taken: 35 minutes

Whew. I'm so creativitied out now :)

Finish time: 28th December 2007, 12:37

UPDATE: Album Art

Okay, so graphic design is not my strong point.

Rad! I especially like the secret rules and the ode. Mad props for doing this task

Wow, this is not an easy task. Well done.

This deserves, like, a million votes.

Your ode and your rap made me laugh out loud. Especially the rap. But especially the ode.

Hell, they're all good. Some of them are even great. Let me know when you release your first album. (Ramones, yes, but can anyone spot all the homages?)

Now that the bar has been raised, I cannot wait to hear Yellowbear's completion. It's going to be epic.

Amazing. Your songs ring true across the eras. +1

These are legitimately enjoyable listening experiences. You sir, I see more and more why you are so highly regarded around these parts.

-- I must have listened to the first song a hundred times by now. Eat your heart out Fernando.

Wow!

perhaps if yours truly joins h.c. (or c.e. for that matter) in the next era, we can put something together for this task.

if it gets approved, of course :)

That was so awesome!
"My Trajecotory" Should be the SF0 theme song or something!
I especially like the line "Hide our faces behind or colored masks"

In hindsight, that line looks racist - but it wasn't intended to be :P
