Player Portrait by auntie matter, Dela Dejavoo
July 6th, 2008 10:45 PMAnd here she is, flying around on her own hip:
You see, I wanted to paint her portrait.
As a giant bat.
I thought it would be best if i could paint her at the same time i was painting her portrait.
But body paint is just too temporary for some things.
Fortunately, GB and i had a recent conversation.
Auntie Matter: GB, It's been a decade since i've given a good stick and poke tattoo to anyone.
GB (looking at one of my self-given stick and pokes from eons ago): They are cute.
AM: I used to give them to my friends. Sometimes inside their mouths.
GB: Would You give me one?
AM: (face lights up) where? what?
GB: hmmm. maybe on my hip.
AM: Are you SURE you want me to disfig. . . i mean, give you a tattoo?
GB: Yes, i would really like that
AM: You do know it's permanent?!
GB: (rolls eyes). Um, yes. I would like you to do it. (we revisited this part for a number of days)
Needless to say, a picture of a bat was the obvious choice for a stick and poke tattoo on GB's hip. It was decided, after much deliberation, I would permanently paint the person known as dela dejavoo with her player portrait of a giant bat.
The proof photos show the whole process.
(Although Auntie Matter would like to point out that the step by step-ish photos are only for the purpose of documentation. She is not suggesting you should go out and give stick and poke tattoos to yourself or anyone else. Especially NOT if you are below the age of consent. There is NOTHING glamorous about stick and pokes and their dubious charms should be reserved for has-beens like herself who have not so much of a bright future to look forward to. There, I told you.)
starting
the first line of inking. it's fuzzy, but the only one i got of actually inking with the needle. It's hard to document AND give a tattoo. Did i mention that i'm NOT a professional? Though notice I am using clean medical gloves and a sterile needle. Punk Rock aesthetics are no excuse for dangerous hygiene!
first outline
after the first go over with the needle the outline is barely discernable. After a decade of letting my stick and poke skills get rusty, i was remembering just how many pokes it takes to get a decent line. GB would have to be very brave.
mid-ink
I did many many go-overs on all the lines to get a solid image. between each inking i washed the image to see how the lines look. Here you can see mid-ink, all beautiful and messy with smeared ink and blood. This is in the middle of about the 5th go-over
final view
Here's the final tattoo. A lovely picture of GB's skeleton on GB's hip. permanent like. Hopefully it holds up ok.
the verdict
GB inspects Auntie Matter's handiwork. She does not throw the mirror at Auntie matter, so we think she likes it well enough. Auntie Matter did not falsely advertise her skill level.

OUCH!
Just a few days ago several of us were discussing how surprising it is that nobody had gotten an SF0 tattoo. Now we will have to find something else to sit around and discuss.
"Just a few days ago several of us were discussing how surprising it is that nobody had gotten an SF0 tattoo."
Loki, this place is already full of crazy people doing crazy things. Please don't give us any more ideas. :)
to be fair, this isn't the first sf0 tattoo. the praxis involving a previous one hasn't been posted yet, even though the task was completed a month ago.
Does anyone remember a praxis in which henna SF0 tatoos were given to strangers in a park? My imagination?
I was one of those crazies that was throwing around the idea of an sf0 tatt. Mainly, an sf0 inner lip tattoo (!)
However, I semi-permanently retired for a while and realized that I didn't want to spend bank on a task.
But this is AWESOME!!!
Cute bat.
I love this method of tattoo! I did it once to somebody else with a sewing needle - not the best idea, but it did make a pretty good thick line :\
I especially love the photoshopped tank top
that doesn't look like photoshop to me.... it looks like MS Paint!
yes, now I know that if ms. matter could dress me up to her liking, that is what i would be wearing.
Also, Dela, you should totally document the healing process for TIME HEALS ALL WOUNDS.
I love the dedication of our group to praxis through tattoos. Fucking great.

Um, can I just say HOLY CRAP!!!!1!! That there is dedication, my friends.
FOEcakes certainly do like to just run about getting tattooed, don't they?
