Everyday Life by Dok's Sock

September 23rd, 2008 3:17 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Don't go to work. Don't go to school.

There is a bug in the new software found by some of the Skype folks yesterday which led to vote points not disappearing when a task was unsubmitted. SSI have informed us that this has since been fixed.

This is a test to see if a parallel bug exists which would make the same thing happen when a task is flagged away. PLEASE flag it; I certainly plan to do so myself (from my main account). Results will be reported in the comments.

I am posting this from a sock puppet so as to keep from gaining extra points to vote with if there is a bug.

This proof has been flagged by 6 of your fellow players (for the benefit of all, flags are anonymous). As such, it has been automatically disapproved. Most likely, they've posted comments explaining why they're displeased. If you think you may be the victim of a bug, injustice, or a gang of Rubins, hit up the contact page.

Results of test number one: if you have a task which gets the red X, it does not then contribute to your pool of votes to distribute. Good.

Test number two will involve unsubmitting and resubmitting (to clear the flags), casting a vote with the ensuing points, and then reapplying the flaggage. Results will be posted.

This proof was un-submitted - any comments before this one are from before the un-submit.

And, result number two: if there was ever a buggy version of flagging, it was fixed with the unsubmit bug. Dok's Sock currently has negative five vote points to distribute.

Thank you, SSI, for making the game work properly; thank you, Skype chat, for realizing there could be a bug to spot and for your rapid-fire flagging to help this test work quickly.

There was a previous test by Skype people of the unsubmit version that had strange results; the bug that led such is gone now (and we could have predicted you would thus have negative votes). This was to make sure the same fix covered flags as well as unsubmissions; it did, as we expected.

this feels a little frustrating. i usually look at a couple weeks worth of tasks in one day. there is so much that i've missed (especially some journey/MN completions) and now i can't vote for them.

i'm not going to be putting out any quick tasks. i proly won't be able to vote for anything for a while.

Maybe something like 10 or 20 vote points would be good for every person to start off the era with. Thoughts?

Sounds good to me.

i like it better than the current system as is, but i like the previous voting system better.

I proposed that the current votes provided for tasks completed at 1/3 was excelent, but perhaps an even 1/1 for votes allowed based on votes recieved would be more in line with what we would all like the game to be. Thoughts?

One. +1

I'm afraid I have but one thought. If you want to vote so badly, there is a historical precedent.

It is everyday life after all.

Fight fire with fire.

I think 1:1 is a bad idea, as it is ripe for abuse (even unintentional) by vote-trading among players. I also think that the vote economy will grow significantly as the era continues, and people do more tasks. I'm quite excited to see how this progresses.

Also: I love Super Votes. I think they're brilliant.

Finally, I'll throw out a thanks to SSI for making this incredible game, for making sure the system works, and for never sleeping.
