Document Growth by Tøm

November 20th, 2007 1:04 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Document something growing.

So for this task, I decided to document the growth of a flash game I was creating.

It was going to be a souped up version of one of my old games FloatO, I'd put a link to it, but I'm ashamed of it. Thanks to Charlie Fish, this new improved version will be called FloatØ!

Read the comments for explanations of each development.

That's as much as I'll put in this task, however if you want to view the updates as they happen, or suggest some features, click here.

And game preview.

Development 1

Development 1

The basic engine. Managed to get a ball colour selector, which is my favourite part so far.

Development 4

Development 4

Now, because I am disorganized and I forget to save a new development before exporting to test, this is the 4th development, with 2 more identical files. As you can see, a lot has been added, including a life counter, scorebox, score pickups, deadly pickups, double point bonus and invincibility bonus.

Development 5

Development 5

I keep slightly organised now, here is dev5, it has a timer at the bottom which will be used to advance levels later on.

Development 6

Development 6

Added a second level, and a gameover screen. Next step, proper menu's.

Development 7

Development 7

There's a proper menu screen, with a how to play section.

Development 8

Development 8

As 7, just the ball select and name enter screen still comes up.

Development 9

Development 9

Increased the levels to 4, and 1 bonus. Fixed a bug with starting after losing a life.

Development 10

Development 10

fixed the level problems and problems with dying.

Development 11

Development 11

Fixed the gameover bug from the last version.

Development 12

Development 12

Increased speed of ball selection. You can now press GO on levels by pressing space.

The primary export of Great Yarmouth is herring.
The primary export of GYØ is flash games that make me waste time.

Surely it should be FloatØ?

I will indeed name it FloatØ.

Thank you for your idea!
