Avant-Caricature by Charlie Fish

INSTRUCTIONS: Modern, conceptual art has found a home in the scholarly walls of museums - but will it do the same on a street corner? In the hands of the everyman, will modern non-objectivism be appreciated?

Your task is to find out - set up an easel, a chair, and a paper pad and offer your services as a modern caricature artist. Think Rothko, think Mondrian. (If a bright eyed child sits in front of you, draw a yellow circle, for example.)

Make sure you document (photograph) your adventure, record your customer's reactions, and show us the art you made.

If people actually decide to pay you for your "art" - give their money back (still give them the drawing) , and explain sf0 to them.

A day off work, and I planned to do some tasking. I bought myself some acrylic paint and a pad of heavy paper, I borrowed some paintbrushes from a friend, and I made a sign advertising my wares.

Then I sat in a pub, got very drunk, and painted non-representational caricatures for whoever wanted one.

I got five customers, who I painted in the style of Kandinsky, Miro, Pollock, Rothko and Barnett Newman respectively. The Pollock was the most fun to paint, but I think the Newman was the most aesthetically pleasing.

This is very win.
I have all of the tools and desire to do this, and you beat me to it. Good going.
I think I'll still do it even though I don't think I can out-awesome you.

UPDATE: I've changed the format of the waitress video so it's easier to view. She was very cool!

It's great that you found so many people who were into the idea. Also, you had a super sign. Signage is very important for establishing credibility!

The Rothko really looks a bit like him. It's nice to look at it that way.

Cool, you actually did this in the end :)
The one of Liam is just like him!

Maybe it's just me, but...

Liam doesn't seem too happy to be portrayed as a square.
