Something Fishy by GYØ Katie, GYØ Ben, Askew., Flea, Optical Dave, Peter Garnett, Tøm, GYØ Vicki, Kyle Westwood, GYØ Neil, Charlie Fish

October 18th, 2008 12:45 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Go fishing for something that is not fish.

We've been fishing for talent over here, and it seems we've got a few people who think they have it! I'll let y'all decide whether or not they do for yourselves though!

We'll be starting with Ben, singing My Hero by Foo Fighters!

Next up, we have Flash Harry with F-Train by David Usher!

Coming up next, we've got Garnett with O-Zone's Dragostea Din Tei!

Tom provides our next performance, with Buzzcocks Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't Have)?

Another GY0 entrant, and our first female contestant! With Joss Stone's You Had Me, please, give it up for Katie!

Our fourth GY0 contestant is Vicki! She's going to be singing Call off the Search, by Katie Melua!

Next up we have Flea with Sam Sparro's Black and Gold!

Next, we have The One and Only Chesney Hawkes Kyle Westwood!

Next up, we have another GY0-er! It's Askew with Amy Winehouse's Back to Black.

Last, but by no means least, we have yet another GY0 contestant! We have Neil with I before E!

UPDATE!

More singing!

We have Garnett with Another One Bites the Dust...

...GY0 Vicki with Hallelujah...

...and newcomer Charlie Fish with American Pie!

Update - 16th November!

Flea with Anarchy in the UK

But the fishing continues though! Anyone else who wants to take a shot at singing for the masses is free to e-mail me an audition! I'll get you collaborated and your song up ASAP!

Everyone else, if you like the singing, VOTE! Feel free to drop a comment saying whose singing pushed you into voting as well.

I think this has something to do with the fact that two thirds of the contestants live within three feet of each other!

Good point, but perhaps an opportunity for duets?

I would like to request that you, Vicki, duet with Ben. Please please please.

A really strange adaptation of Moreton Bay, an Australian traditional. Note that I completed a small section of it first then realized it had to be over 45 seconds, which half explains the strange... change. The other half just arises from bad musical ability.

Holy cow, PFKAHL, this is hypnotic. Not Pøp Idle material, mind you, but the sort of infuriatingly good stuff you are famous for. Argh.

what is the new theme?

(no subject)
posted by Flea on October 20th, 2008 12:00 PM

This week's theme is The 80s!

Get your tracks (full songs, backing music optional but preferred) to me by this time on Friday! And actually Friday this time, not Saturday!

EDIT: Also, I didn't think this would be necessary but... please don't vote for this praxis if you're still in the running to be collab'd...

Heh, lol, I have plans...

(hopefully my semi-lost voice will return by Friday...)

I have scary plans involving a certain gothic/punk band and a primarily piano based song... but only because the NoMeansNo song I wanted to do was released in 1990...

Funfun!

Nine contestants, not many of whom can sing. I'm beginning to think I should have entered this after all...

As it is, I'm watching with interest.
Who says a copy can't be as good as (or in this case a lot better than) the original?

(no subject)
posted by Tøm on October 20th, 2008 12:22 PM

Enter.

Enter now!

(no subject)
posted by GYØ Ben on October 20th, 2008 12:28 PM

I think it's a bit harsh to say we "can't sing", Sombrero. I mean, I would understand if you had entered, and yourself been the best singer out of all of us, but even then, you'd sound all bigheaded.

posted by Tøm on October 20th, 2008 2:04 PM

Audio proof or it doesn't apply, Jowan.

Audio proooof!

posted by Sombrero Guy on October 21st, 2008 12:21 PM

1. I can't enter. The deadline's gone.

2. I freely admit that by my definition of singing, I cannot sing either. I wasn't saying I was better than anyone who entered. All I meant was that I expected that if I entered I would stick out as being terrible, but it turns out I probably would have been on the same level as some of the weaker singers. Sorry if I offended anyone with this comment.

3. Maybe I will do a comment song at some point, just for a laugh, if I can find time to record when nobody else in the house can hear me.

Question!

Does anything special happen if multiple contestants pick the same song?

(no subject)
posted by Flea on October 23rd, 2008 9:02 AM

Not particularly, but you do get to marvel about how like minded you are.

I would request that you don't make a conscious attempt to pick the same song as someone else though...

(no subject)
posted by Peter Garnett on October 23rd, 2008 11:08 AM

It's not that, it's just that I'm worried the song I'm picking is going to be popular submissions-wise in a way unrepresentative of its general popularity.

My sincerest apologies to the three people who actually sent in files for the second stage of the competition.

I'm collaborating everyone who has taken part so far. Anyone else who wants to take part is free to drop me an audition, and I'll get them up ASAP.

EDIT: Done, but Askew's already working on this task, so I cannot add her as of this moment.

Vicki, great rendition of Hallelujah. Wonderful choice of song, and well delivered.

Actually, it's so inspired me that I might just send something in if I can figure out how to record my voice onto some sort of machine... Even though I'm not elegable for collab status.
