Public Art Opportunities by Augustus deCorbeau

The Sheets

After I printed them, I used a sharpie to draw a random squiggle in the box, as inspiration to start people off.
On the back of each one was some information about the creative commons license, because... why not?
The Opportunities

Student Union Building, downstairs.
Not much traffic here, so I relocated.

Student Union Building, upstairs.
Better results.

Fine Arts Library
Nothing. I guess the design students have enough art opportunities of their own.

Anime Club.
Jackpot. Lots of people gave it a shot.
The Public Art
These are some of my favorites, but you can view all the submissions in the full gallery below. And stick around for the Comments section, where we'll be voting for a winner!

i'm doing this task at smedly's with picture frames on the blackboard, but these cards are way better.
This is fantastic. Very nicely done!
This pretty great, so professional those cards and table, boy the squiggle? Brilliant.
No votes left and pissed off about it.
An elegant completion. (And also, an innovative use of comment voting. Nice.)
What a great completion, really imaginative. Vote.
I'm gonna vote because - yay! - but also question: Is it a "public" art opportunity if the art goes in a closed-off box and then on the Internet where mostly only the group of people playing this game will see it? Jumping into the game with both feet because I'm pretty sure it's the only way to jump.
well it is art by the public; also, thats UNM isn't it? awesome.
Also, each piece has been released to public use under a creative commons license (though I notice now that got clipped off somewhat in the scans).
The creative commons release answers my question. If it's been released to public use, it's gotta be a public art opportunity. Plus and also, I agree with rongo rongo about your multiple relocations. :-)
Adding the squiggle to get people going was a squiggly stroke of inspiration. And kudos for relocating until you found fertile ground.
I like your innovative use of the comment-voting system.
Great completion of the task, guaranteed to get a response from the public. I love that you branded it with the SF0 logo as well, on the off chance people would be inspired to find the group. Making it a competition was a nice touch too.
I find myself wondering when the arbitrary vote ending time will be?
An excellent point.
Voting ends tomorrow!
Polls are closing...
NOW!
And... we have a three-way tie between #1, #3, and #4 with 11 votes each.
#2 is a distant... last with 6 votes.
Okay, here's how voting's going to work. In each of the comments below is a full-sized version of one of the finalists I selected. Simply use the comment vote button to pick your favorite! You can vote more than once if you like them all, or even negatively vote if there's one you really don't like! You can even nominate another finalist -- just snag the url from the gallery and post it in a comment.
Whichever picture has the most votes at... the arbitrary vote-ending-time will win eternal fame and fortune!
Ready... GO!
